Hello everyone! It's gonna be an amazing afternoon at Five County Stadium. Righty Kyle McCulloch (2-3, 5.31 ERA) will take the mound for the 2-1 Mudcats against Huntsville's Wily Peralta (5-6, 4.33 ERA.) As I noted yesterday, second baseman Cody Puckett was sporting a hard cast last night. He has been placed on the 7-day disabled list. No corresponding move has been announced as of yet, but I would guess that Jake Kahaulelio would be recalled from Bakersfield. In other transactional news, right-handed pitcher Carlos Fisher has been optioned to Triple-A Louisville to make room for Homer Bailey, who came off the disabled list on Sunday.

Makes sense, using Box today was probably out of Bell's hands. Given the season that he's had, Box has to be considered the top pitching prospect in the organization currently.

Dayton overcame a 4-0 deficit to win 5-4, in spite of striking out 14 times. The game-winner was a 2-run double in the seventh by Torreyes (2-4), driving in Sierra (3-4) and Hamilton (1-3, BB). Exemplary work by Doyle, Howell, Rogers and Hayes in relief of Josh Smith.

He's still needs another year or two in the majors to season. In 2 to 3 years he will be a much better pitcher. Remember he has only 1 year experience in the bigs.

Billy Hamilton has now hit in his last 6 games and has a .326 BA in his last 10 games and a .298 BA for June. Unfortunately, he still is not taking walks. Billy's OBP for June is still only .318 and still .301 for the year. Billy is showing the ability to get singles in June. Let's hope he can continue this hitting into the second half of the season.

Neftali Soto is now slugging .497 for the year. He is slugging .632 over his last 10 games and is quickly turning himself into an interesting prospect. It blows my mind that he is only 22 years old. I just assumed he was older seeing that he has been talked about on this board since 2007.

He joined something like 11 other Mudcats in the record books this weekend by hitting a HR in three consecutive games. I would love to have seen him get one yesterday but it didn't happen for him.

Looking at it this way he would only be a college junior. If he keeps this up then next year he will be in AA ball which is an extremely high starting position for a pitcher drafted out of college, so in reality he's a couple of years ahead of schedule.

This is one of the great phenomenon in drafting High School players. Soto, Lotzkar, and of course Mesoraco are other examples of guys who are playing at higher levels given their age than they would be had they of been drafted after college, despite struggling earlier in their professional careers.

I'll try to do it more often. It's a nice break from homework. I might even throw in some satire.
