That's the optimum lineup, offensively--and the first time I recall it. The bottom of the order has your top two home-run guys, back-to-back.

Kevin Goldstein mentioned a few Reds prospects in his minor league report today...

•Daniel Corcino, RHP, Reds (Low-A Dayton): 7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 8 K. 20-year-old Dominican gave up 11 runs over 13.2 innings in his first three starts but has 1.48 ERA since; plus fastball, plus breaking ball and plus command is a wonderful combination.

•Zack Cozart, SS, Reds (Triple-A Louisville): 3-for-4, RBI, SB, CS. Yup, still hitting; .320/.363/.488 in 69 games.

•Yasmini Grandal, C, Reds (Double-A Carolina): 3-for-5, 2 2B, R, 2 RBI, K. Best game since last week's promotion to Double-A; 6-for-17 (.353) in five games.

•Ronald Torreyes, 2B, Reds (Low-A Dayton): 3-for-4, R, 2 RBI, 2 SB, CS. Small second baseman with big-time bat speed is 10-for-24 in first six games of the season.

Pretty amazing when there is no room for Chris Valaika in a AAA lineup...

Have you paid attention to the season Valaika is having? It isn't good. Heck, for that matter, his career in AAA hasn't been good. He has 1068 PA in AAA with a line of .265/.300/.363.

True, but he was a AAA all-star last year, and played with the Reds this season and last, so I think he is probably still considered a slumping player with potential rather then a bust. He does not deserve to be in this lineup now, but it is pretty amazing that there is no ROOM for him in a AAA lineup.

Yasmani Grandal is 1-for-1.

But did he deserve to be a AAA all star last year? Sure, he hit .300, but it was pretty empty (not many walks and very little power).

Phipps has hit his first home run of the year to tie the game for Carolina, 1-1 in Tennessee.

Not sure, all I was saying was that having no space for a recent major leaguer in tonight's lineup shows how strong it is - regardless of his stats this year.

Yasmani Grandal is now 2-for-2 with a double and 3 RBI.

It's also his 5th walk in his last 35 ab's. The power has been there but the approach has not, hopefully he's turning a corner.

Klinker gives up a three run shot to Ryan Flaherty to give Tennessee a 10-7 lead in only the fourth inning.

Kyle Waldrop has two hits tonight after two last night. He's coming on. Billings is tied 4-4 in the seventh. Kyle McMyne had a rough two-inning start, but Mitchell Clarke had four nice innings of relief: 4 IP, 2 H 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K.

Josef Terry, the 30th-rounder, doubled tonight in his first professional at-bat. He's batting third as the DH for the AZL Reds, who trail 3-1 in the fourth.

Even the DSL and VSL Reds lost today. Unless Billings pulls it out or the AZL Reds come from behind, the entire organization will be winless on this date.

Dayne Read and Robert Maddox have homered in a 6-run eighth to put Billings up 10-5.

I was at the Bats game. Was not one of their better performances of the season. Kind of a lackluster effort. One of those games where just the "vibe" or whatever you want to call it, from pretty much the first inning on was just bad. Other than Francisco's two run shot in the 9th and Hermida with a monsterous HR early in the game it was all Braves. God I can't stand the Braves... even their minor league team. Anyway.. I have yet to figure out Scott Carroll. I really wasn't to familiar with him prior to this season and possibly I fell victim to a bit of preseason hype when I heard that he was the best pitching prospect that the Bats would have on their roster this year... but he just has failed to impress me yet. Still time to turn that around of course. Sappelt looked more like Clark Kent tonight than superman, Alonso and Mesoraco seemed like meer mortals too. Francisco had the two hits a the big HR but he has really been drawing the ire of the Bats broadcaster lately with his attitude. Not running out grounders and pop-ups. You know if the broadcaster is commenting on it then the Reds brass are catching wind of it too.

Anyone know who takes the mound for Dayton tonight? I'm taking in my 1st Dragon's game this season, though with a 3 year old coming along for his first ballgame, not sure how much I'll be watching the game and how much I'll be watching his reactions to watching the game, nor how long he'll last. Hoping to catch at least 5 innings.
