I think you forgot Francisco in there. (Or Frazier, but probably Francisco.)

Cozart walked to leadoff the game and scored on an Alonso single and some bad defense lol

I know we talk about this all the time on these threads, but how ridiculous of a AAA lineup do you have when Chris Valaika is your #8 hitter? (And Dave Sappelt your #7.) I know Valaika is having a terrible year, but still. He would be batting second on most AAA teams.

This might have been the wrong night for me to sing the praises of Louisville's lineup considering they are going up against the top-ranked pitcher in all of triple-A.

FWIW, Phipps led off the game with a triple and scored the Mudcats only run. According to PK he has a 10 game hitting streak going.

Lotzkar had a decent start, the most important number being the innings pitched: 7 IP, 5 H 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K.

Dayton now trails 6-5 going into the bottom of the ninth. Barnhart has a HR.

I sure hope they wake up.

Well in any given game anyone can look bad... but tonight Francisco, Hermida and Meroraco in particular looked really bad. And while Reineke was a victim of poor defense to a certain degree, he wasn't really "on" either. Cochran and Alonso were about the only two guys that appeared tonight for the Bats that really had what I would call a good game.

Frustrating to see this team struggle offensively

Excluding April, when Travis Webb made three starts, he has a 1.59 ERA. That is 18 appearances (2 starts). Nasty.

Billings scores 8 runs on 11 hits to win 8-7. All of the starters except for Muller got a hit. Mugarian had 7 K in only 4.1, but also gave up 7 H 6 ER and 5 BB.

Speaking of Ryan Lamarre, dude has a .361 OBP now on the year for Bakersfield. Unfortunately, he is still not slugging with only a .383 slugging percentage, but his speed and OBP could play well at the top of the order.

Overall, he has 67 K in 49.2 IP. Early indications suggest that they have found themselves a lefty reliever.

He really needs to start slugging, especially in that league.

Has anybody seen him play much? Everybody was down on Stubbs' power in the minors, but Doug kept saying that the power was there and that he would eventually step it up. Lamarre is not quite as big as Stubbs, but he's a pretty big guy. Do people see more power in his swing or is he likely to just be more of an OBP guy with good defense?

Unlike Stubbs, LaMarre was never projected to hit for a lot of power. I see him more as you describe (an OBP guy with good defense) and I'm not a big fan of those types unless they play MI or C.

Given that we already have Stubbs, Sappelt and Heisey ahead of him and Rosa/Rodriguez behind him, I'd use LaMarre as a trade chip to a team that likes the Juan Pierre/Felix Pie/Julio Borbon type of player. Obviously he's likely not a centerpiece but could be an add-in to a larger deal.

I didn't see much power from LaMarre when he was in Dayton. Stubbs, you could always tell by his swing that he had power potential, at least in my opinion.

I remember reading where a scout said he determined whether a prospect had power was by the sound of the ball coming off the bat.

I disagree with you here, Benihana. If you take Stubbs out of the equation, I see a lot of value with a .360+ OBP good glove in centerfield.

Now, I am not saying that Lamarre is this guy, or can even become that kind of guy, but I feel like centerfield is a perfect place for a high OBP, good glove guy.

There simply aren't many good OBP MI out there that can pick it and many of the high OBP catchers out there, don't have the speed that would make for a prototypical lead-off man.

If Lamarre can keep getting on base and picking it in centerfield, I see tremendous value there. Obviously, if he can start slugging, that value skyrockets.

Scouting reports coming out of college suggested that LaMarre had solid power potential. I was always a little skeptical of that, but so the scouts said. With that said, I haven't seen him play a lot and have never seen him take BP either, which I would like to do before suggesting he doesn't have the power in him.
