On the MLB homepage they have pictures of what appear to be the starters for each league and Fielder/ Weeks look like they prevailed. I guess the selection show is on TBS at the moment.

Here's a link to an article re: the starters.

Ron Washington is making some interesting selections. CC Sabathia, not an all-star.

Russell Martin??! Really? The Yankees got five guys on the team this year and I think CC was more deserving to be picked than Martin.

I still think Joey and Brandon make it today but I guess they'll be reserves for the NL.

Yay for Matt Weiters! :)

I am just relieved that The Captain is the starter at SS. Gives the NL that much more of a chance to get home field.

Lets see if Washington has the balls to hit him 9th.

Jay, Joey, and BP all made it! YAY!

Cueto or Cordero?

Personally, I'd rather none of the Reds to make the team and just enjoy the time off.

I missed the pitcher's announcements. Not sure.

I'm surprised Bruce made it, but I thought Cordero would. Cueto had no chance with Ryan Vogelsong around.

Re: Russel Martin, I'd be a bit upset if I were Carlos Santana.

I'm definitely not a huge fan of bringing relievers at the expense of great starters.

What happened to having to take utility guy? Ben Zobrist was very deserving.

Since some of the NL starters are scheduled to pitch on days in which they would not be available for the ASG, that still leaves Cueto and possibly CoCo a chance.

Yes, in spite of all the voting, there's always a messy scramble at the last.

But I wonder, would you want to bring in Cordero to close an All-Star game?

Actually, this year, sure. He's been pretty stellar, overall.

Even 3 Reds making the AST earns a thread title with negative connatations.

You're right, but my trust is fragile. He's been solid this year though.

Great to have 3 Reds going. Sure beats the days of the one mandatory pick.

Yeah. I remember the year they had just the one mandatory pick make the team, he was Jeff Shaw then they traded him to the Dodgers before the All Star Game. That was a low point.

Wow, like others, I'm surprised at Bruce! But good for him, seeing as it's his first, I'm sure it will be memorable.

ESPN rates the 5 biggest snubs as...

Andrew McCutchen, CC Sabathia, Tommy Hanson, Jhonny Peralta, Shane Victorino. In the case of Sabathia, they point to the fact that he is scheduled to start the Sunday before and would of been replaced by rule anyhow.

Apparently Bruce was a player's selection. As was Russell Martin. I'm glad for Bruce, but on merit in 2011, he doesn't deserve the nod.

Unsnubbing starting pitchers is easy, they'll just name Sabathia as a replacement for someone else who's pitching Sunday, then replace him with someone else who isn't pitching Sunday. They'll probably manage to get Hanson in, too.

I think Sabathia is pitching on Sunday.

I'm pleased that Bruce made the team, but I can't see how he made it over McCutchen.

Well....Rosenthal is not a Bruce fan.

From Rosenthal:

(SNUB No. 2) Andrew McCutchen, Pirates: Blame the players. McCutchen’s .884 OPS is higher than two of the outfielders they selected, the Reds’ Jay Bruce and Astros’ Hunter Pence.

And later, where Bruce is Rosenthal’s No. 3 among least deserving:

Jay Bruce, Reds: A selection that demonstrates the limited attention span of the players who vote.

Bruce had a monster May, no doubt persuading many of his peers. But he batted only .228 in April and .217 in June. Among NL outfielders, he ranks 15th – 15th! – in OPS.

As much as I believe in Jay Bruce's talent, I'm in complete agreement with that.

I agree. Jay has been good, but others have been better.

I'm actually pretty happy the way it turned out, except I think Phillips should be starting. I'm glad none of our pitchers and guys like Hernandez and Rolen are not going...I think they could all use the rest. The three that got selected I think are best suited to go and not be effected by the extra (partial) day of work. As long as Bruce doesn't hit in the HR Derby and mess with his swing, I'm fine with it. GO NL! GO REDS!

It could be very interesting when Brandon Phillips and Yadier Moloina share the same clubhouse in Arizona. ;)

Did anyone catch the Trivia Question of the game today?

"When was the last time the Reds had three position players make the All Star team?"

They listed the answer at 1976 (I believe). But I am pretty sure the correct answer was Last Year.

Rolen, Phillips, Votto???

Oh did they? OK, because I was certain they have had to of made a mistake. And the question was certainly make the team, because it would make no sense in asking about starting three players when not a one is doing it this year. :)

yep i was wondering about that too....Phillips seems like the kind of guy who would kinda reach out and try to wipe the slate clean but I don't see 'ole neck tat going for that...and before I get any lurking Cards fans upset i have to point out that i hold a grudge for an eternity and would be more inclined to keep the fire burning than to go the route of the bigger man so I really wasn't saying anything negative about Molina(though I can't stand the guy):D
