Interesting that a player doesn't have to be voted to the All-Star Team to be chosen to represent his League in the Home Run Derby.

It's a shame this rule is now into place. Adam Dunn should've been invited many times in the past.

I completely agree. I would still like to see him in the home run derby one year. He isn't having the greatest of years this season but could turn it around enough next year to be selected for the home run derby. I don't like how they keep changing the rules for the home run derby but making it so the best home run hitters are chosen is a smart choice.

The NL should take Wily Mo.

The NL should take Wily Mo.

Wily Mo vs Josh Hamilton vs Adam Dunn in who would hit the most majestic shot. Those 3 guys alone would probably be worth the price of admission just to see the absolute BLASTS they were capable of.

Are there stats on the disruptive effects of the Home Run Derby on hitters' in-season performances?

Probably, but my guess is that it could only help Dunner at this point.

Add Mike Stanton to that trio.

big "Z"....i bet Zambrano could hold his own especially if they let the Cubs infielders take infield before he hits!

I know this is the first year for this--but they were at least toying with it in the past. I remember on the paper ballots at the stadium you could vote for who you wanted to see in it and Dunner was always on the ballot--even though he wasn't ever going to make the All-Star team again. Then I don't know what they did with those vote totals.

It's weird to me but I hope Bruce is in it just for entertainment.

Prince's reaction to Wily Mo's latest was priceless. Hopefully he was taking notes.

If the NL wants to win--they'll let Arroyo be on the bump to throw to them--no matter who is chosen to represent the NL as the hitters.

It will be a tough battle, but I know Arroyo is up for the challenge.

Apprised of the grassroots campaign to get the NL to add Pena to the Home Run Derby (which, for the first time this year, is not limited to All-Star participants), Ortiz made his feelings clear.

"That's not good," Ortiz said of the idea of having Pena among the NL's lineup of batting practice bashers. "We would lose right away."

Nooooo. From the same article

Fielder passed on Pena, instead selecting Brewers teammate Rickie Weeks, Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp and Cardinals slugger Matt Holliday.

Weeks, Kemp and Holliday? Yawn.

I would've gone with WM Pena, Stanton and Ryan Howard.

Weeks, Kemp and Holliday? Yawn.

Agreed. That's lame. That's gonna be a boring HRD from the NL side anyway.

For some reason, I thought the real participants were already out there. AL has Jose Bautista and 3 other guys no one is really dying to see in a HR derby, either, Ortiz, Adrian Gonzalez, and Robinson Cano. I'm thinking there's some pressure to invite your own teammate, and maybe some for the teammate not to decline.
