Dontrelle is maybe two good starts away from forcing the Reds' hand IMO and getting a shot with the big club. Especially if Volquez, Arroyo and Bailey don't turn things around. Hopefully Willis is sharp tonight against the team with the best record in AAA.

Bailey has a 3.64 ERA, 1.71 BB/9, and 7.29 K/9...he's doing just fine.

I'm just wondering what the plan is with Willis. The rotation is not going to dismantle enough for him to get a shot IMO. Why not put him in the bullpen like the original plan and get something of value out of that signing? Just seems like a waste having him burn quality innings in Louisville.

Lets be honest here.... who is going to go down for him?

Pitcher ERA
Arredondo 3.48
Bray 1.59
Chapman 5.82
Cordero 1.49
LeCure 2.70
Masset 3.35
Ondrusek 1.79

The only one would be Chapman and we know the Reds aren't going to do that.... so really, there isn't room for him in the bullpen, which has been pretty incredible with the current guys.

I agree. If he joins the big league club, it's going to be as a reliever. Might as well have him pitching out of the bullpen in preparation.

He's gotta be more useful than Arredondo. That guy seems to have lost a tick of stuff post TJ and is walking way too many batters to be consistently effective IMO.

Slow roller to 2b or does Mes have above avg speed for a catcher?

I'd rate him above average "catcher speed" but this was something of a high chopper. Looked like the second baseman considered trying for the inning ending DP prior to coming home with the throw. That split-second hesitation did the trick

This was the most bizarre Mudcats game I have ever witnessed. Ok, so the game goes into a rain delay against the Suns in the fifth inning. After heavy, heavy rain, the Mudcats decided to go ahead and do the firework show before the game resumes. A halftime show, if you will. So The long blast show commences and there is cardboard all over the field. It takes almost an hour (plus some more light rain) before the game resumes. Gus takes the mound and gets the Mudcats out of the inning. Denis Phipps his a two-run bomb to take a 3-2 lead. Fast forward to the eigth inning and the Mudcats give up the lead. Then in the tenth the Mudcats give up two runs, making it 5-3 Suns.
Bottom of the 10th: Kris Harvey goes in for his third inning of work. Denis Phipps leads it off with a single into left. Quntin Berry then walks. Chris Hatcher replaces Harvey. Mike Costanzo pops out, one away. James Skelton walks. Bases are loaded, one out. Naftali Soto strikes out. Two away. With the bases loaded and two strikes on second baseman Henry Rodriguez, Pollo (Rodriguez's nickname) singles back up the middle, scoring Phipps and Berry. Game tied. Hatcher throws a wild pitch, moving the runners up to second and third. Then outfielder Felix Perez punches out at 12:52 AM. The umpires and the managers get together and suspend the game for the morning. It will continue tonight (Tuesday) at 6:15 in the top of the 11th with it 5-5. I have never seen anything stranger then these events that occurred on Monday night.

Dales is on an absolute tear and says he's quite happy with the move to 2nd. He's cut down on his strike outs quite a bit since the 4th game which is essential for a lead-off guy.

The night before on what was supposed to be the Suns 4th of July game with the "biggest fireworks of the year", and the stadium full of kids, the Suns won in the bottom of the 17th. Of course by then it was well past midnight, and the stadium was nearly empty and all the kids went home without the fireworks.

If some there would have had the smarts to say. "Let's pause the game for 20 minutes, shoot the fireworks, let the umps go to the bathroom, and resume the game"......

So Suns followed that up with bus trip to Carolina, and then the marathon described above....
