Lotzkar is rolling through four, with 7 K. Still 2-0.

Would have been entertaining to watch Torreyes and Hamilton racing around the bases together on Torreyes' triple. They're both 2 for 2.

Lotzkar struggling with his command big time in the 5th. He's hit 2 batters, actually hit the same batter twice, the first time around, the ump called him back and said he made no motion to get out of the way, which got the South Bend Umpire ejected for arguing, then turn around and hit him on a 3-2 count w/ the bases clogged. A run had scorred previously off a popup to LF that Duran just got to, but couldn't hold on to. The dropped ball resulted in the runner at 2nd being thrown out at 3rd, thus avoiding an error and turning it into a fielders choice.

Bases clearing double off the CF fence, hands South Bend a 5-3 lead, Lotzkar has been pulled.

By the way, where has Yorman been? Injury or is he out attending to the death in the family that was mentioned a week or so back?

Don't believe I've ever seen a pitcher hit five guys in a game. And only one walk.

Dayton goes up again, 6-5. That team is fun to follow these days.

In the ninth, Hamilton walks, steals and scores on a sac bunt and sac fly. Howell closes. Dayton wins 7-5. South Bend had only three hits.

Some major small-ball in that one. Torreyes was 2 for 2 with a BB, HBP and sac. Hamilton stole two (60). And D'Anna drove in four runs while going 1 for 3, a single.

Jacksonville wins the suspended game 9-5.

Neftali Soto has been chosen the Southern League Hitter of the Week. That's back to back for Carolina with Phipps taking the honor last week.

Well, Lotzkar did start the game with four no-hit innings and seven strikeouts. He had command problems in the fifth, but don't forget that he's not far removed from the DL. He's getting there.

Nobody's going to mention that Louisville beat Columbus, 4-2? Sappelt homered. Alonso had three singles. Horst straightened himself out. Gil got the save.

In the regularly scheduled game, Carolina just squandered a 3-run lead in the seventh and is tied 4-4. Joseph was on the receiving end.

Rodriguez and Soto (13) have homered. Hynick pitched six strong innings, giving up just one unearned run and fanning 10.

Phipps is now at .301.

I love that Soto is heating up. He is approaching the .900 range in OPS. Anyone still have any doubt that he will be placed on the 40-man this offseason? There is no way the Reds will risk losing him in the Rule 5 draft IMO. I expect Soto to be the 1B for Louisville all of next year.

You're right. Over the past month or so, it seems that Soto has converted his gap power into home run power.

Clayton Shunick and Doug Salinas complete the shutout started by Salinas. I don't suspect there are many of those in the California League. Bakersfield wins 3-0. Two hits each for Stephen Hunt, Mark Fleury and Jose Gualdron (both doubles).

The AZL Reds lost 7-6. They were down 6-4 going into the ninth, and I was about to post that that's what happens when Brandon Dailey is held to one hit. Then Dailey hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to tie it. That kid (.436) is looking sharp.

Drafted late (past the 30th round, I think) last year out of high school. Canadian. Played SS for one of their national youth teams. He must have got a nice bonus to sign. Signed late, so didn't get on the field till instructionals.

If he keeps hitting, they have to consider pushing him to Billings. When you dominate, you move up, and he's dominating.

With the Reds just because you dominate a league doesn't always mean you will move up... just ask Smith, Corcino and Hayes from Dayton

Good kid.Drafted 34th round Had scholarship to Ohio which I think scared off a few teams as he is a serious student. 3 time canadian Honda hit, run and throw champion as a child. Played on same team as Billings pitcher Mitchell Clarke. He's really eager to move up to Billings as he is accomplishing what his coaches are asking of them. Provincial 100m and javelin finalist. Heck of an athlete and very dedicated.

For those who might have missed it on other threads, kookyguy coached Dailey in youth leagues. His son and Dailey played together. So he's our resident Brandon Dailey authority.

Interesting stuff about the hit, run and throw contests. Three times can't be a fluke. And you've got to be impressed with a kid who can excel at both the javelin and 100-meter dash. That's a wide range of athleticism. And most of all, you've got to be impressed with a kid who's such an athlete and can also put the bat on the ball. That's a very promising combination. It also sounds like he has the intelligence and dedication to put it all together.

Could he be this year's Torreyes?

Well, if they had struck out four times each;Horst had give up a couple of homers and Gil had blown the save they would have fit right in with the Reds and been promoted this morning. But since they didn't they have earned another two weeks in Louisville. ;)
