Matt Klinker on the hill for Carolina and doing well. He's up 6-0 in the bottom of the 4th. Grandal with a bases loaded double in this one.

End of four, Mudcats up 6-1. Klinker got his first K in the bottom of the fourth.

Play-by-play isn't working for the Carolina game on MiLB which I always like to watch.

Doubleheader in Huntsville tonight with Pedro Villarreal going in the night cap.

I should have said Gameday isn't working for the Carolina game.

Bottom of the 6th, Klinker still on the mound. Carolina still up 6-2.

Mudcats radio is raving about a throw from Phipps to Campbell at third base on a tag up attempt by Huntsville. Phipps threw out a guy tagging up from second to third on a one hopper.

Klinker strands three runners to keep the game at 6-2 headed to the seventh (final regulation inning). Chris Mobley is warming in the pen.

Phipps has a 16 game hitting streak on the line in this game. He is o'fer tonight and bats 8th in this inning. Long shot at this point.

Soto drives a solo shot over the left field wall. Carolina up 7-2 in the seventh.

In the bottom of the 5th, the Bats trail 1-0 and Hermida has the only hit.

Bats have not walked and have K'ed 7 times.

Janish is 0 for Louisville.

Janish got a single. And a throwing error.
Since Janish joined the Bats, Sappelt, Frazier, Dorn and Costanzo are hitless.

The Bats had 3 hits and 1 error and were shutout 2-0.

The hitters seem to have shut down waiting for the all-star break.

Dragons win their record breaking game 4-1.

Renken pitched a solid 6 2/3 with only one mistake that ended in a solo blast by South Bends giant 1B. The bat boy went 1/4 with an RBI, but 3 solid at bats. First AB he drove in Hamilton on an infield grounder to the right side after Hamilton stole 2nd and 3rd. Hamilton probably had the play of the game by throwing out a runner at home from halfway into center field, kept the game tied.

A lot of hard hits that found gloves or foul territory for the Dragons, especially from Lutz/Duran/Torreyes. Team was way more impressive looking than the last time I saw them about 2 months ago.

Drew Hayes is making a mockery of the Midwest League. After striking out three in the ninth inning tonight he stands at 37.2 IP, 15 H, 18 BB, 60 K, 14 sv, 0.96 ERA. He'll be 24 in September and is obviously worthy of a promotion, but I can understand letting him stay in Dayton and help that club have a big second half. Especially with the alternative being Bakersfield. Seems like a guy who might skip a level to start next year.

What does he throw? Nice fastball, good breaking ball?

Carolina leads the second game 6-4 after five. Three-run homers by Quintin Berry and Jake Kahaulelio. Didn't see that coming.

Edit: Take that back. Berry's was a solo shot to start the game. But he has 3 RBIs, with a double involved.

Don't have a scouting report on him, except that he was a tremendous high school quarterback. Mr. Football in Tennessee.

Sean Buckley has his fifth HR--his third in two nights--but Billings trails after eight. A mediocre start for Guillon, but a slight improvement. Followed by a rare off night for El'Hajj Muhammad.

The AZL Reds trail 3-0 after five, which is what happens when Brandon Dailey doesn't have a hit. Daniel Tuttle had a strong start: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 r, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K.

Bakersfield has totally stopped hitting, which isn't surprising considering the guys they gave up to Carolina. Also, they faced Zack Wheeler of the Giants tonight. It's 2-1 San Jose after seven. Curtis Partch had a nice start.

Not that anyone cares, but the Mudcats won game two of the double header 8-4 and sweep the twin billing.

Brings them within two games of .500 at 7-9. That club looks to be way more competitive in the second half.

Billings lost 8-5. Buckley's two hits leave him at .333. He and Drew Poulk have given that team some consistent offense.

Ryan LaMarre singles and steals with two out in the ninth, but is left stranded and Bakersfield falls 2-1.

He was throwing a lot of fastballs, topping off around 93 with good location. Threw one a little over the plate and got blasted for a double but that was the only mistake.

Saw a changeup against the first batter he faced around 78 if I'm remember correctly. I think there's also a little more deception in his delivery because he throws roughly the same speed as Renken, but hitters weren't picking up the ball at all.

He throws a little harder than Renken. Renken worked 87-91. Hayes was working 91-93.
