. . . had the same amount of AB's as Dew Stubbs, he'd be 3rd in MLB in K's?

I like Chris, but that dumb swing he had for the third strike on a pitch 3' feet outside was about the end for me. Are these guys just guessing or actually watching the pitch come to the plate? I wonder sometimes.

I think they have quite a few "guessers," actually. Ever notice how many they take right down the chute, but swing at stuff in the dirt or way off the plate? I'd be willing to bet the Reds lead the league on taking strikes right down Broadway.

He also could go 0/175 and still have 1 more HR and 1 more RBI than Stubbs had in the same amount of ABs.

'Yeah, but Stubbs strikes out so much!'

Is it too hard to admit that Heisey isn't as good as people think. Yes, Stubbs strikes out, but he still gets on base more and plays better defense. Overall, he's just more talented and despite Heisey's 'hustle,' Stubbs is the better option.

In the same argument how many homerun would he have with that many at bats?

Stubbs is probably the better player right now, but Heisey still has only 400 career at bats. And has 20 home runs in those at bats. How could you be done with him already? He is without doubt better than Gomes in LF

You hit the nail on the head. The argument shouldn't be over Stubbs and Heisey. The big question is why are they not both in the lineup? Actually, with names like Willingham, Melky Cabrera and Franceour being mentioned in trade rumors, Gomes might actually have some trade value.

So what if he has more HR's? His OBP is worse than Stubbs and the only thing folks can hang their hat on as to why Stubbs shouldn't be playing is because he strikes out too much. Well now that we know Heisey strikes out at a comparable rate, there's nothing else except HR.

The comparison is pointless as both should be starting.

Compare Heisey to Gomes and its a no brainer.

The starting outfield most days should be Heisey, Stubbs, Bruce

I generally want Heisey playing alongside Stubbs, not in place of Stubbs. I recognize that Stubbs is going to strike out a lot and am willing to deal with that because of the many positives that he also brings. However, Stubbs was going through a horrible stretch, which he seems to have come out of with his performance the last 2 games. When he goes into a prolonged slump, I support having Stubbs sit out a few games and letting Heisey play in his place. It seems to have worked, and hopefully Stubbs is back on a hot streak now.

They want to be like gomes lol!!! is there a worse hitter in the majors than him?
why has he not been optioned what does he offer? you see what happens when you bring up a guy (Cozart) who is a player. IMHO its the hitting coach who should be blamed too many with the same MO! is he teaching this? Get some of these young Studs up here get rid of the dude with the horrible hair cut!

Our team is better served w/ Heisey as the 4th OF and 2 starts a week. We need a full time LF and I'm comfortable with have a well below average LF defensively, Yonder, out there than anyone else in this organization.

The Reds have two legit starting outfielders (Stubbs and Bruce) and three guys that are nice number fours. Gomes is at times lethal against lefties and Heisey and Lewis do a nice job off the bench. Dusty is juggling the pieces he has in a manner that benefits the team. RedsZone (AKA: Dusty Haters) would be moaning if Heisey was playing and Lewis and Gomes were "Chained to the bench". After winning two of three against a big rival all we hear is whining and complaining from a lot so called Reds fans.

baker is a big time genius he does wonders with his bullpen, I am so glad that Gomes keeps playing, he also has the uncanny ability to let a pitcher hit late in the game and then remove that pitcher in the next inning, a veritable Euclid
