Renken with a hitless second and two more Ks. What kind of prospect is he? His K/9 is 11.3.

Fringe starting prospect. Average fastball, good breaking ball. Not your typical starter mechanics, but they aren't "scary" or "violent", just a little different. Wouldn't surprise me if he winds up a reliever in AAA in a few years (not saying he is a AAA guy, just that might be the level he finds himself moved to the bullpen).

Sliding Billy draws a walk. That might be a mistake. Hamilton moves to third on a rope to left. Torreyes moves up to second on the throw to third base. Balk. Dragons up 10-0. Torreyes on third. Dragons' announcer in awe of Hamilton's speed. D'Anna with another single, 5 RBIs on the evening. 11-0.

A reverse sequential cycle possibility. Homer in the first. Triple in the second. Double in the third. You would figure he has at least two more cracks at the single.

Every time I listen to a Torreyes at-bat all I hear is a solid crack. His third hit of the night is a solid single to right. 12-0 Dragons. Error on the Peoria second baseman loads the bases. Torreyes now 10 for 13 in his last three games.

muddie
07-21-2011, 08:27 PM
End of four full, Carolina still up 2-0. Through four Klinker has given up one hit. He managed to survive several early line drives that found the gloves of the outfielders. He seems to be settling in a bit now.

Sounds like one of the Chrises. Denorfia, Dickerson and Heisey all had the same pattern. He's more athletic than Deno and probably not as poweful as Heisey. Dickerson had more OB skills and was a lefty. He's a cross between the 3 which probably puts him on the radar as a useful major league bench player. Hope he keeps improving and becomes more.

Because Guillon's original contract was voided, when he re-signed with the Reds, it meant that he would be available for each rule 5 draft to follow if not on the 40-man roster. It's a weird, obscure rule that Baseball America mentioned a while back.

A couple more notes to take away from the Carolina win last night...

Felix Perez has quietly put together an 11 game hitting streak. The team had a season high 17 hits last night.

Donnie Joseph and Justin Freeman struck out the side in the eighth and ninth respectively. That was huge for both of these guys whose troubles have been well documented.

Some concerning things from this game:
Lutz went 0-2 in at bats once he hit for the cycle.
Torreyes had only 1 walk. Only 1. ugh.
Hamilton only 1 walk and only 1 SB. No wonder poor D'Anna only had 5 RBI.
No sac flies for the whole team!!

I don't know what to make of this comment. The guy goes 4-6 and there is a concern? Am I missing something?

You are missing the sarcasm. I thought the rest of the post would have made that clear, ex criticizing Torreyes for going 5-5 but only having 1 walk. Sorry I should have broken out the emoticons.
