Iíve been kind of a slug as far as contributing to the site lately, so I thought Iíd try something: baseball birthdays for the day. Weíll see if anyone wants to contribute thoughts or reminisces of these guys, and if it catches on Iíll keep doing it.

So, today, July 21:

Reds (not saying Iíll spot every one every day, but Iíll try):

Kimera Bartee, 39- Speedy OF; had a decent rookie year, then it was look out below. By the time the Reds acquired him in 2000, he had exactly zero hits in his ML future.

Denis Menke, 71- Considered a key cog in the legendary Joe Morgan trade, he never hit at all in Cincy. Fun factoid: In 1973 he hit .191 for the Reds but had a .368 OBP!

Moe Drabowski, (died 2006)- spent part of í62 with the Reds on his nomadic journey through the big leagues. He was supposed to be a major flake, but I donít remember any funny stories about himÖanyone else know any?

Others of Note:

C.C. Sabathia- 31

Al Hrabosky- 62

Johnny Evers- (died 1947) Looks like Stan Laurel in photos, but donít be fooled- he was intense to the point of being a borderline psychopath. Stiil-controversial HOF selection.

So what do you thinkÖis this worth doing on a daily basis?

Yes. Moe Drabowski as I recall was a pretty good reliever for awhile. Struck out a lot of guys.

I like the idea, please continue with it.

I vote please continue!

Sabathia is only 31...feels like he's been around MLB for 20 years!

Good idea. Keep on doing it when you can.

Denis Menke turning 71 makes me feel old. He was good defensive 3b who was near the end of his career when he came to the Reds. He certainly solidfied that Reds defense in 72 and 73 if nothing else.

I like the idea too.

I remember thinking the Mad Hungarian's antics were funny when I was a kid. Now I can't stand him as a Cardinals commentator.

Didn't look it up but my recollection is that Menke hit pretty well in '72. Got some key hits.

OK, OK, I know. Chico shut down the birthday posts because he hit the one year mark but I'm having withdrawal pains.

So, here is his initial post from July of 2011. Just add one year to the ages unless the player checked out during the past year. I don't remember any of them doing that.
