HR: NY - Howard Johnson (6). CIN - Dave Parker (21), Buddy Bell (6).

This was the game where Ray Knight sucker-punched Eric Davis after Davis stole third in the bottom of the tenth inning, precipitating a bench-clearing brawl. Ray Knight and Kevin Mitchell were ejected for the Mets, while Eric Davis and Mario Soto were ejected for the Reds. (Mets RF Darryl Strawberry had been ejected earlier in the game for arguing a called third strike.) Mets manager Davey Johnson had only one position player remaining on the bench when Knight and Mitchell were ejected, so he had to use a pitcher in the field. He decided to put both of his closers in the game (LHP Jesse Orosco and RHP Roger McDowell), and periodically flip-flopped them between the mound and the OF, depending on the matchup.
