Oh my. The AZL Reds lost 24-4. The Cubs scored 20 runs in the last four innings. Five guys pitched for the Reds, and not one allowed fewer than three runs.

Juan Francisco made a rehab start (DH) and went 3-4 with a 2B.

Chris Denove is also in Arizona on rehab.

The AZL Cubs scored 15 runs yesterday, too. Coming into today, no one on their team has more than two home runs this season.

Yeah, I was thinking, whoa, pretty interesting that they would move Phipps into the three-hole. But then, the alternatives have been severely diminished.

There's Dorn, too, FWIW.

Phipps, Costanzo, Perez, Castro--Carolina West. The scary thing is that Carolina finished the first half of the Southern League season at 23-47.

Louisville is laying down a whoopin right now, up 8-0 in the 3rd inning. They are still batting. Hermida is 3-3. Valaika is 2-2 with a walk and HR.

It's becoming more and more obvious he will be Votto's replacement after he is traded away.

Finish out the year in Carolina, Louisville in 2012, move him up after Votto is moved out.

A big RH power bat to bat 5th.

Needs better plate discipline. I expect AAA to be a bit of a learning curve for him. The power is absolutely legit though, just think he still has a ways to go before he can be a MLB caliber hitter.

They're up 8-1

Your right, but he has a very good hit tool.

A good hit tool with great power and about 1 or 2 years ahead of most prospects, gives me alot of optimism.

A stagnated improvement in plate discipline gives me a cause for concern.

great rip by Hamilton... First time watching him, and if the ball gets past the OF'r, you almost EXPECT an inside-the-park HR...

that's crazy.

You are currently watching a past game from July 23rd, just so we aren't confusing anyone here. Tonight's game is in a rain delay currently.

Yeah. It's an older game (rain delayed replay of earlier game) but still fun to watch.

I had no idea that Magic Johnson was an investor in the Dragons' franchise. Cool.

Hamilton almost got out of that rundown. He's lightning fast. Torreyes' has got some wheels too. Both are VERY fast.

Bill Rhinehart is making his first start tonight for Carolina. Playing RF, he's 2-3 with a 2B and 2 RBIs.

Mudcats lead 5-2 after six. Looks like they'll have to play from behind again, if you know what I mean.

Googly moogly. Billings, down 9-0, just scored 7 in the sixth. Drew Poulk (.370) and Nick O'Shea both hit two-out, three-run homers.

Josh Garton is playing in that game as the DH. It's his first appearance of the season. He's 1-2 with a 2B.

I'm not so sure on this anymore. Quite frankly Votto may just be playing himself more into the Reds price range. The OBP is still tremendous, but the power outage and overall OPS are no longer in the 25 million a year range when you factor in the position he plays. Don't get me wrong, Votto is still a great hitter, and will get tons of money. But, there's a difference between that and MVP type money.

I guess the question many teams will have is "whether 2010 was just a career year?". 2012 will go a long way in determining whether the Reds will be able to afford Votto IMO.
