Rangers cut loose Arthur. Glad for all he did for us, but also glad we didn't bring him back this season at $4 mill.

Rhodes was magical in 2010, nearly unhittable for much of the year.

Neither he nor the Reds have been able to find that magic in 2011.

Good call by Jocketty.

This was one move, not to resign Rhodes, that was done at the perfect time in a players career.

24 IP, 6 HR allowed.

No surprise, no shame it was good run for him and I'm glad the Reds didn't pay him 4 million bucks this year (or 1.35 more than what Jay "former #1 prospect" Bruce gets)

He's lost 2.3 mph off an already slowing fastball (down to 89 mph this season)...

I would pick up Rhodes, move Bray into Chapmans spot, Rhodes into Bray's spot, and start extending Chapman as a starter immediately. Put him in the rotation, let him throw three innings if that's all he can get and have Lecure ready to come in afterwards and get you to the late inning guys.

Rhodes had some magical seasons with the Reds...mainly the result of a very favorable BABIP. But he was a cool dude and drove a pickup.

GG, Arthur!

Arthur was great. I appreciate everything he did for the Reds for a couple years, and I share the gratitude of others that he was not re-signed over the winter.

Say it ain't so. Cards could be eyeing Rhodes...

Another fix for Duncan.

Love them or hate them, the guy has done wonders.

Or just promote Horst? :dunno:

I'd love it if the Cards picked up Arthur Rhodes. I think he's finished.

5.55 K/9 this season after being between 8 to 10 per 9 for (almost) the last couple of decades.

John Fay pointed out that the Reds would be on the hook for the remainder of Rhodes' $4M deal and cited that as the #1 reason they wouldn't be picking him up. Makes sense to me.

That's only in the case of a trade/waiver claim. If he's released completely with the Rangers receiving no one in return, the Reds would only need to pay him the minimum.

I would have gone with him not being a better pitcher than any of our current relievers. People really love to think that their BABIP fluke guys are the exception to the rule. Rhodes was very solid, but was not as great as a Red in terms of what he could actually control. He's clearly taken a step back -- as he did towards the end with us.

My first post here, thanks all for the call-up.I wonder if his foot(or feet?) have had an effect on his performance.I know that in part was problematic at the last here.Plantar faciitis,it is a hobbling condition, until corrected.

I believe that is the whole problem with Arthur. You'd think he'd have gotten better during the offseason though.

I know this has no bearing on anything discussed here, but in a 20 year career, Rhodes has exactly 1 hit, as an Oriole in 1998. I wonder if that is some kind of record.

Kind of odd it came as a member of the AL.

Cardinals signed LHP Arthur Rhodes.
Rhodes was released by the Rangers a few days ago after opening the season with a 4.81 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over his first 32 relief appearances. He's still an effective option against left-handed hitters and should do fine if used correctly by Cardinals manager Tony La Russa. The 41-year-old will join up with the Redbirds on Friday.

You just know the Cards will use him correctly...

What's correctly?

1 batter and out?

That's the guy you felt the Reds should have thrown 4 million at last year... now he's a waiver guy and the Reds said pass.

Really? I don't recall ever going on record as saying that... or even believing it. Hell, I don't think I even dreamed or joked about that.

Aside from the fact he's going to be 42 come October.
