Suprised that this has not been posted yet, but according to John Fay, Heisey will be put on the DL, and Sappelt is on the way!

No big deal, you said you were surprised this had not been posted yet. I just posted the link to let everyone know we were discussing the subject in another thread, but you are right I think it deserves it's own thread.

So, I guess it's time to play everyone's favorite game show..."Guess The New Guy's Number"!

I'm gonna guess 9, with 17 as a darkhorse candidate.

31 is also in, with Gomes gone. I'm going with 17, thinking they're saving 9 for Mez.

No one. They've been holding at 39 since the Gomes trade.

Glad to see Sappelt brought up. Hopefully he'll get a chance to play every now and then. :beerme:

His AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS line at Louisville has been:

.313/.377/.458/.834.

Even better slits against southpaws.

He at least should get some PT against LHP.

He and just about everybody else on the Reds.

Sappelt CF
Phillips 2B
Votto 1B
Alonso LF
Bruce RF
Frazier 3B
C
SS
P

Stubbs can play against LHP with Bruce, Alonso and Votto all taking some turns sitting it out.

That line will look really nice when Dusty only gives him 5-6 abs a week.

Wow Jr. looks an awful lot like Jay Bruce in that shot.

Im super happy for Sappelt. I think the Bats season is all but over w/ them being 13 GB and obviously the Reds can't beat teams like the Astros and Cubs but can sweep World Series champs.. so i'd like to see more talent from Louisville being called up in about 3 weeks when the roster expands.. in fact I might actually go to a few games then.

If Arroyo faulters today then I wouldn't be surprised if he is DL'd for fatigue and Volquez gets the call. Both pitch today. Back to Sappelt.. Here's hoping the Reds give Stubbs a day off and Sappelt is the leadoff CFer.

They are 5 back in the wild card with a DH today, so that is more then possible if they go on a tear like they did last year.

I think whoever is playing 3b for the reds on any given day should wear 14. Could change every day so that 14 is always at 3b for the reds. Kind of a jab at MLB for not letting the reds retire the number officially

I didn't realize that.. and they are more then capable of a tear. Wood & Volquez + Mesoraco, Francisco, Hermida, Dorn, & Phipps are potent to this teams success.

#17 for Sappelt. Like someone else said, I'm guessing #9 is eventually for Mesoraco.

Sappelt is leading off today in LF.

Walt must have given Dusty instructions to play Sappelt and to hit him lead off.

I've read and and also heard Dusty say he likes to let new call-ups sit for a day or two to ease them into the lineup.
