This game marked the end of the infamous 1981 strike which gripped the nation for two months. The NL used 29 players, with all twelve clubs represented. The AL used 27 players, with every club represented except for the Twins. Three Reds played in the game. SS Dave Concepcion started and was 0-for-3 beore being replaced by Padres SS Ozzie Smith in the bottom of the sixth inning. LF George Foster started and was 0-for-2 before being replaced by Dodgers LF Dusty Baker in bottom of the fourth. RHP Tom Seaver was the second pitcher for the NL, pitching one inning and allowing one run on three hits with 1 K. The managers for the game were Dallas Green of the Phillies for the NL, and Jim Frey of the Royals for the AL.

I was at this game. The Reds rallied for two runs in the bottom ofthe ninth inning of Jason Isringhausen to get the win. Javier Valentin led off the bottom of the ninth as a pinch-hitter for Royce Clayton and struck out. Rich Aurilia then drew a walk, and Chris Denorfia pinch-ran for him. David Ross then blasted a game-winning two-run homer onto the lawn in CF, and the stadium erupted.

Never knew the HR fact about Garagiola. He had a really good World Series for the Cards in 1946 too. From looking at his career stats he was a better player than he ever let on about in his self deprecating way.
