Reds:

Chris Valaika (26) - Probably impatiently waiting for Sept. 1 callups to be announced.

Don Carman (52) -Lefty who pitched 36 innings for the '91 Reds.

Billy Myers- Fine shortstop in the '39 and '40 glory years.

Others:

Clay Buchholz (27)

Juan Pierre (34) -I'll be relieved when he retires; I always have this nagging fear that Dusty's going to push to acquire him for whatever reason.

Mark Fidrych -R.I.P. Bird...Never anyone like him

Paul Dean -Wasn't actually very "Daffy", but when you're Dizzy's brother I guess it's inevitable.

.623 OPS in AAA as an offense first MI. I hope he's not holding his breath. He should be more concerned with a DFA to make room for guys like Mesoraco, Phipps and Burton.

I love these threads everyday Chico.

A name we could add would be Joe Horlen (75). Pitched 12 years in the bigs, 11 of those with the Pale Hose.

I always got Joe Horlen and Joe Horner confused....

Jim Mason (62) was the first player to finish his career having homered in his only postseason AB. He did it against the Reds in '76.

And Art Phelan was a Red I missed...the regular 3b in 1912.

Don Carman is famous for giving up a homer to the Crafty Left-hander Chris Welsh in 1986. It was the Creeper's only career home run.

Happy Birthday, Earl Weaver! The Earl of Baltimore is 82.

I wonder if Alice Sweet ever got her tomato plants put in.
