View Full Version : Tuesday 8-16-11 Minor-League Action
Matt Lentz, the tryout-camp dude who played football at Kentucky, got his first professional hit for the AZL Reds. It's described as a ground ball to third base, so I don't know if it was a bunt or a dribbler or what. Then he stole a base. Meanwhile, Steve Selsky, off to a great start, homered. It's 1-0 in the second with Joel Bender, the Oak Hills kid, pitching.

Grandal activated on the Carolina roster and Coddington returned to Bakersfield. You just missed him Doug.
Here's an example of why Brandon Dailey, in addition to batting .331 for the AZL Reds, might be an intriguing leadoff guy. So far today: 1 AB, 3 R, 0 H, 3 BB, 3 SB . . . (As I was typing that, he made another out . . . )
Selsky has hit his second HR of the day, and Carlos Sanchez and Brennan May have chimed in. It's 9-1 in the eighth.
Bender (3-3, 3.79) had a nice start in the 9-1 victory: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K. Lentz finished 3-5, with all three described as being on the infield. I also just noticed that Sanchez, Selsky and May went back-to-back-to-back in the eighth.

If it were a bunt, it would have been noted as a bunt. So it was a grounder of some kind.
Phipps (.359) is 3-3, with two doubles, against Ross Ohlendorf. It's 2-2 in the sixth.
Puckett's grand slam has Carolina up 6-4 in the fourth.
Lefty Wandy Peralta (6-1, 2.05) threw five scoreless today as the DSL Reds won with two hits, 3-0.

Doug can we get a scouting report on Phipps? I feel like I knew nothing about him coming into this year and he is absolutely mashing
Boxberger nailed it down for Louisville, 3-2.
Rhinehart homered in addition to Puckett's slam, but Carolina came up short, 9-8. Grandal was back and 1-4.
