View Full Version : Friday 8-26-11 Minor League Game Updates

08-26-2011, 04:17 PM
For the second time in three days the AZL Reds face off against the division-leading AZL Dodgers. And for the second time in three days the AZL Dodgers are running out a starting pitcher with a 0.00 ERA. Juan Ramon Noriego is a 20-year old righthander straight out of the Mexican League. He is listed at a Torreyes-like 5'7" and 145. In limited action in the AZL League he has worked just 9 innings, giving up 6 hits, walking 2 and striking out 15. The AZL Reds have countered with Carlos Gonzalez.

In the bottom of the 4th the AZL Reds trail 2 zip but the AZL Dodgers have the bases loaded with two away. Noriega has pitched three innings, giving up 1 hit and striking out 5. Gonzalez is not faring as well. Update: AZL Reds now trail 5 zip.

Dayton is up 5-0 in the first. No outs yet. Torreyes had his 3rd triple in two games in the first.

James Avery kicks off the final road series for the AA Reds affiliate in 2011, the Carolina Mudcats, tonight in Montgomery. It is almost over.

BTW, I'm listening to Neil Young's, Like A Hurricane...appropriately.

08-26-2011, 08:55 PM
Tanner Robles walked back to back hitters, then gave up a 3 run HR. Dayton is now up 6-3.

08-26-2011, 08:58 PM
Billy Hamilton doubled in Duran. Torreyes with a sac fly scores Bowe. Dragons up 8-3 in the 3rd. Still batting.

08-26-2011, 09:41 PM
Three hits for Hamilton. No stolen bases. Barnhart has homered. 9-3.

Seems like David Vidal has been off his game lately. Anybody know if he's been ailing in some fashion?

08-26-2011, 09:45 PM
Vidal just homered. He must read Redszone. 13-3 Dragons.

08-26-2011, 10:05 PM
Soto with his 28th. Puckett with his 13th. Rodriguez with his 4th. Carolina goes up 5-4 in the third.

08-26-2011, 10:21 PM
Louisville up 7-2 in the eighth. Francisco has his 15th HR. Phipps, Dorn and Hermida have two hits apiece.

08-26-2011, 10:27 PM
Avery gave up 9 runs (7 earned) in 2.2 IP. Carolina's down 9-5 in the third.

08-26-2011, 11:11 PM
I feel like every time I check these threads Soto has hit another homer and Phipps has another 2+ hits

08-26-2011, 11:29 PM
Louisville wins 7-4.

Dayton's final was 13-4.

Billings is up 5-1 after four. Danny Vicioso is 2-2. Cole Green is pitching.

Carolina trails 9-5 in the seventh.

08-27-2011, 01:09 AM
Henry R clubbed another HR, this one a slam, in the ninth, but it wasn't enough for Carolina, 12-9.

Billings rolled 11-3.

Matt Fairel still hasn't gotten it together. Bakersfield trails 7-6 after six.

08-27-2011, 01:13 AM
The Billings win, combined with a Great Falls loss, moves the Mustangs into a first place tie.

08-27-2011, 03:38 AM
There were some intentional HBP in the Bats game stemming from Francisco admiring his HR. Gil was ejected. In fairness to Juan, it was a majestic shot.

Benches cleared but no brawl. Both teams may be ready to rumble tomorrow.

08-27-2011, 11:03 AM
Three hits for Hamilton. No stolen bases. Barnhart has homered. 9-3.

Seems like David Vidal has been off his game lately. Anybody know if he's been ailing in some fashion?
What is amazing is that his stolen bases have dropped off as his avg and oba have risen.

Scrap Irony

Lost amid the dominance of Torreyes and the re-emergence of Hamilton is the season of David Vidal. Vidal's thrown together a very, very good season. He's shown a solid bat on ball skill, lots of power (a 500+ slugging in the second half with an 880 OPS), and he's doubled his BB rate over the course of the season.

That 14% BB rate over the second half isn't the only good news. He's cut his K rate by 5% as well. Add that to glowing reports about his glove at the hot corner (a major worry from the draft), and you could very well see Vidal as a top ten prospect-- perhaps even top five-- in the Red system.
