Imitating Cubs fans does not make you look cool; it makes you look stupid. If you don't want the ball you caught, give it to a kid.

And running out onto the grass indicates that drunken stupidity is likely. :beerme:

I agree 100%. Throwing the ball back is a CUBS tradition -- not a BASEBALL tradition.

I agree. My tradition is to throw the home run balls either A.) directly at the umpires or B.) out of the stadium entirely.

I absolutely hate this practice at GABP. I can guarantee you if I ever catch a home run ball and some drunk dude keeps yelling at me to throw it back...I will probably have to end up being escorted out by security.

If I ever catch a home run ball I am keeping it or giving it to a kid (frankly I am probably keeping it :) ). I am not throwing it back.
Imitating a Cub fan at GABP should be at least a misdemeanor.

Being a Cub fan should be at least a misdemeanor.

Fixed that for you

Agree except to say that kid in Texas who ran out and caught that laser shot definitely was not drunk- it was a great catch, on the run, by a guy running out of the stands onto the grass in the CF batters eye.

however, he was stupid, I agree, for throwing it back. If it were me, I'd have made that catch, held it high above my head, and went right back to my seat.

Cubs fans are Cubs fans, they can't help themselves.

You're probably right, but when I see someone imitate a Cubs fan, I naturally assume drunkenness. The alternative's too horrible to consider.

Drunkenness, or brain damage. Maybe a stroke.

lol I was thinking the same thing. That kid made a great catch on the run. Not a fan of him throwing it back but still.

I'll bet the guy who caught that dinger doesn't even know this was started by Cubs fans.

And he'll live in infamy, with video taped evidence and sports center highlights up the ying-yang for the quick release.

Myself, I'd have caught it and given it to the closest kid I could find. Or a beautiful woman. I'm not perfect.

I get very annoyed when people do that at GABP. It's not as bad as the wave, but almost. This ain't Chicago. Not knocking Chicago, btw, love that city, just not their sports teams or fans.

There are rules about throwing objects onto the field. If those were enforced for this at GABP, that would stop this practice in a hurry.

I've never caught a foul ball or a home run. If I ever do though, I'm giving it to a kid if there's one around me.

If it's significant to the player, I'm giving it back to the player. It's their accomplishment.

I'll always have the memory of catching it, and the satisfaction of doing the right thing :)
