Only get to take one starter and Smith did have better numbers almost across the board.

Don't mean to be picky, but how could they totally neglect Phipps and Torreyes? I guess you could make a case for Rodriguez over Torreyes, but LaMarre over Phipps? And not even a secondary mention for either? Oh well.

Phipps is 25. Not really a "prospect."

Huh? What about Todd Frazier? Dave Sappelt?

edit:
Phipps is 26 btw.

Phipps has been playing pro ball for six or seven years. Frazier has only played since 2007 with Sappelt only playing since 2008.

Frazier has been playing baseball on a big stage since he was a kid. Phipps wasn't introduced to baseball until later in life.

Just going by how those people "evaluate" who and who isn't a prospect.

Yeah, I didn't really think about it at the time, but you are right. The list isn't called the Reds Prospect All Star Team, its the organization all star team. Which is strange because Jeremy Hermida made the list and isn't even in the organization anymore. With that said, he (and Phipps for that matter) made my organizational all star team. I also selected HRod over Torreyes. Mostly because he played a full season and that has to count for something.

Yeah, I guess Hermy being on the list debunks my age argument.

It does.... but it just makes it all that more confusing. Phipps, BABIP lucky or not, was arguably the best hitter in the system this year. To not be named is a shame, especially when LaMarre was and he barely floated above water in an extreme hitters league.

Phipps should have been included -- no question.

Nice article, though. I like the praise for Lutz in the 1B section. Interesting, too, that the Reds guy says they see Hamilton staying at SS.

Maybe it's the fact that they want to see more than 4 months of hitting. He's pretty much been roster filler his entire time in pro ball then goes off for 4 months. If you talking all-star years and not prospects then he should be there. Let him put up some good numbers next year and then maybe we got something.
