To me this is ridiculous. I remember players sitting on the bench spitting brown goo all over the place, and it was part of the game.

I play softball, and it's not unusual to see several players spittin' brown during the game. There's a reason pro ballplayers dip/chew, it doesn't harm your lungs and doesn't impede breathing.

Tobacco is a stimulant, and if you're addicted to it, it's a necessity. There's no reason to ban it if you aren't harming other people's lungs with smoke.

Doesn't really matter to me either way, It doesn't bother me if they're chewing tobacco but it doesn't bother me if they aren't either. I know I wouldn't be allowed to chew tobacco at work for an 8 hour day, no reason they couldn't go 3 hours without chewing.

I am sure that they would give you a smoke break though.

I'm sure they could go down into the clubhouse and have some chew too, and get rid of it and come back out lol.

I wonder, is caffeine banned during play, its a stimulant also and seems it would be banned for that reason if thats why? Or just the health risks behind chew and dont want that on display for kids to see and model after. Or maybe cause it is simply very disgusting and no one should have to smell it/you or watch em spit that all the time, slide in it, etc on the field.

Chewing tobacco is no more an essential part of the game than sunflower seeds. Honestly, some people are reacting to this like they're going to let the MLB start playing with aluminum bats or something like that.

The stuff is gross enough by itself, then you add watching the disgusting spitting as well. I've got no problem with them banning it from the stadiums. It's no different than teams requiring players to have a dress code while traveling.

It is different because congress didn't step in and say you need to wear a suit when you travel. It should 100% be up to the individual teams. Our federal government has no business trying to get involved in it. Absolutely ridiculous.

I guess they'll probably switch to that snus stuff anyway. You can tuck it in and actually swallow all the juice without any ill effects.

I just think it's stupid. When I was 13 in baseball camp they actually taught us how to spit. It was part of the program :)

I am going to miss hitters at the plate with about three pounds of chaw in their cheek (ala Ryan Freel). That was just funny.

.......until they use your can or cup to spit in.
