Take a look back at the manager's prolific career.

The Cardinals scheduled a 10 a.m. ET news conference for La Russa to announce his decision.

Smart man. Not only a very good manager, but knew the party was ending after a fluke ride.

Will Duncan and Pujols follow? I sure hope so.

Maybe Duncan stays as manager. OTOH, Francona would be a great fit there.

The general sentiment is that Duncan (especially with his wife) will be leaving. Will be interesting to see who the replacement(s) are.

Wonder how Carp told his son the news (figured it would come up sometime, so go ahead and do it :))

We'll see if the Cardinals agree: They're interviewing (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/11/francona-to-interview-with-cardinals-today.html) Francona today. I always liked Francona in Boston, but it would be hard to root for him if he signs on with the Cards.

I think you're right that he's a good fit, though. Given the experience he has managing outright superstars (Ortiz, AGon, etc.) and ego-driven maniacs (like Manny), it seems he'd be ready to take on a Cardinals team with its own superstarss (like Pujols) and ego-driven maniacs (like Carpenter).

We need to get a countdown to pitchers and catchers reporting- when it is announced. It is hard to countdown from TBA.
