Here's the blog posting:

Aroldis Chapman is back throwing pain-free, but Winter Ball is no longer part of his offseason plan.

“We’ve decided against sending him to Puerto Rico,” Walt Jocketty said. “He’s on a strength-and-conditioning program in Arizona. He’ll go to Florida after that and continue to work out.”

I'm beginning to wonder if they really know what they're doing with this guy.

I like the decision. I don't like pitchers piling up innings before they get their man-strength.

I like it because a big part of being a starter who can go deep in to games and last the full season is a strong core and lower body. I'm not worried about the arm strength -- he's got that. Let's make sure the rest of the body is up to par so he's not putting any more stress on his shoulder & arm than he needs to.

I like it too, but he's not going be able to pitch many innings next year- maybe like Leake did his first year, as a 5th starter?

He had 108IP in 2010, and only 76 in 2011 (including minors).

I would have loved to see him as an SP after the ASG, preparing for 2012.

Fifth starters only pitch around 150 innings a season, so the need to stretch him out isn't that important. The only problem would be if the Reds made the playoffs, which is a problem I hope the Reds have.

Health comes first. This is a good decision.
