Make Champan, Ondrusek or Massett the closer to alleviate the salary a FA or trade would command and sign Beltran to play left field (offer 2 years for 25 Mil with a club option for third). Granted all three of those options had "issues" at times last year but certainly if you start grooming them in the off season to close one of them could pan out. After Beltran's contract expires use the money coming off the books to re-sign Votto (we should be done w/ Arroyo by then as well). Beltran gives us a legit 4 hole hitter instead of plugging Rolen in where he doesn't belong...... and watch Beltran hit 30 home runs playing half his games at GABP.

Problem solved.:beerme:

I would be all for using Chapman as the closer if the Reds went out and spent a little money on another upgrade somewhere else. Making Chapman a starter seems like too much of a project, when this should be a year (as well as next) the Reds go for it. Would love seeing Chapman throwing heat and finishing off ballgames.

MLBTR reports (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/12/red-sox-increase-dialogue-with-francisco-cordero.html) the Angels and Red Sox are both interested in Cordero. It seems likely the Reds won't be able to match the offer of at least of those deep-pocketed teams, and so perhaps there's a chance Cordero and his declining peripherals won't be returning to the Reds.
