Absolutely. I bought peanuts from him when I was a kid. He was in a wheelchair by that point.

Peanut Jim was a part of our ballpark ritual...we always got a bag of peanuts from him before the game. It was part of the whole experience.

Some of those peanuts looked like they were older than Peanut Jim, but what the heck, it was a tradition...

My dad always bought some from him at Crosley and Riverfront. I remember the smell vividly.

What a wonderful memory charged article! I not only remembered Peanut Jim, buying the peanuts with my dad at Crosley before a game, but with my grandma downtown on Fountain Square! What a great article! I just love these old historical type articles- I clipped this one and saved it. I'll read it more than once. Thank you for pointing it out RM!

Thanks :)

I remember vividly going to our first game after he died. My family didn't know and we looked for him around the whole stadium, only to be told of his passing by the ticket taker. We were devastated, put a real damper on the game.

I used to walk downtown on occasion from Lower Price Hill to see the Reds play. $3 red seats. I was like 12 I think. He was just so tall, and an absolute presence. My grandparents, complete racists that they were, would never buy from him when they took me. I always looked for him though. It was one of those things, like I had to see him before the game.

I hadn't really thought about him in years.

Heck yeah. All the way back to Crosley days. He lives on in an old home movie.

Does anyone remember the big guy at Crosley who used to hawk Hudepohl Beer? He would shout out things like "Get moody with Hudey" and "All the way with 14 K"? He was very entertaining.

Haha, or let's rock n roll with a Hudepohl! :)
