Isn't he from the Dominican Republic?

I think this could be a nice depth signing. He was decent for the DSL Reds before heading east. Interesting to sign someone who was once in your system. If nothing else he's pitched in some high pressure situations in Japan and won in their post season.

He was dominant for that team. Looks like he might have gotten hurt in Japan. His ability to miss bats went away in 2010 and he only threw 1 IP last year.

I assume this means he can enter the country now. He was part of the same scandal that caught Alexi Ogando years ago. He was the Reds next Jose Rijo at one point. What could have been.....

I am sure that kind of talk was hyperbole.

I just googled that to find out.......... and I found a thread from 2007 in which you asked the same question. Funny stuff!

It sounds like they are different people.

He was really good when he was a kid. I wonder what happened to blow up his arm? He stats blew in 2010 from a superb 2009 and he barely pitched in 2011 so there was likely a surgery or injury of some sort. I'll be curious to see where he's placed, and get the first scouting reports on his health and velocity. Still only 27. As a kid he was 93-97 and reportedly had an electric arm. Then he got involved in that marriage scandal where women were married off in the DR to get them visas and he was caught in the sting - a poor ignorant DR kid trying to make a fast buck - and it screwed up his chance to get stateside. I guess he was released by the Reds and then opted for Japan by the time the legal problems got straightened out.
