With His Recent Relapse I Feel He May Be On The Outs In Texas. The Rangers Have Went Back And Forth On Whether Or Not To Sign Hamilton Long Term And His Ability To Stay Healthy Is Definately A Sticking Point. Their Were Talks That Texas Was To Sign Prince Fielder And Let Hamilton Walk Next Year. So What Would You Offer A World Series Team For A Player You Once Obtained Edison Volquez For?

Homer Bailey; Maybe A Mistake But I Think Jeff Francis Will Be Servicable In His Place. Factor In The Potential Of Maybe Signing Roy Oswalt. Speaking Of Penny.. Brad Penny Might Be A Decent Option Here As Well.

Nick Masset; Nick Makes A Pretty Penny And I Think With Additions Of Madson And Marshall Allows To The Reds To Part With A Bullpen Arm. Especially When You Have Guys Like LeCure, Arredondo, Brackman, Bray, Judy, Ondrusek, And Potentially Fisher And Smith Battling For A Spot.

Chris Heisey; The Super Bat Off The Bench. He Might Have Just As Much Value As Homer In This Deal But I Think They Could Use A Solid Bat Back In Return. Texas Has 6 Other OFer's On Their 40 Man Roster Not Including Josh. Over A Full Season Many Have Said Heisey Is A Potential 30 HR Guy.

Texas Would Have To Include Cash In The Deal Along With Hamilton. Reds Then Will Have An Outfield Of Stubbs, Bruce, And Ludwick Along With Hamilton Who Could Play All OF Positions At A Gold Glove Caliber.

Bailey, Masset and Heisey for Hamilton? The Reds would never do it, they can't afford Hamilton. Texas might do it but I doubt it, and I really doubt they'd send cash in addition. Then next year the Reds have to try to re-sign Hamilton, and they've lost Bailey and Heisey - and if Heisey can hit 30HRs as you surmise you've traded off a 30HR guy you can afford for one you can't. Yes, Hamilton sounds wonderful but it's not realistic for the Reds in my opinion.

They'd have to pony up. Yes he has issues, but if an MVP goes on the trade market you can bet there will be other GMs lining up to outbid you.

I honestly don't know that The Reds match up well enough. Texas has a glut of young pitching so Homer wouldn't really interest them. Alonso is gone. Mes is supposedly untouchable. Who else do you trade? Remember, The Rangers have to agree to it.

I couldn't disagree more. There is not a shred of hard evidence that Texas wants to move him. As I stated in another thread, "relapse" is the media's word for his action this week. He did not relapse, he made a stupid decision and is moving on. I can't see the Rangers fan base sitting still for a Hamilton exodus.

I don't know if you'd consider this "hard evidence," but the Rangers and Hamilton have put extension talks on hold (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/02/rangers-hamilton-put-extension-talks-on-hold.html). Hamilton has already said he doesn't want to negotiate a deal during the season, so it looks like he'll at least hit free agency at this point. If I were running the Rangers, and knew I had the potential to lose Hamilton as a FA, I'd at least listen on trade offers.

The Rengers are trying to win a World Series. They aren't going to deal their MVP candidate for spare parts like Heisey and Masset. Want Hamiton? Be prepared to deal Votto to get him.

I prefer Votto.

I agree it will take an impact bat, but it's two years of Votto for one of Hamilton, so that's not going to happen. Don't see a matchup between the teams.

......Along With Hamilton Who Could Play All OF Positions At A Gold Glove Caliber.

Hamilton can't play CF or RF at a gold glove caliber. He generally doesn't even play CF anymore at an acceptable level.

Josh Hamilton in left and at the top of the order has been EXACTLY what the Reds have been missing the last couple of years. With him, you could print the playoff tickets and T-shirts today.

Price looks low to me. It'd cost more than an average reliever, below average starter, and average outfielder to get a top talent

The only way to get Josh Hamilton back is with a time machine. :(

I can't see this happening. Besides it would drive Dusty nuts trying to make out a lineup with three lefty power hitters like Votto, Bruce and Hamilton. Dusty doesn't want two lefties in a row in the lineup; how would he handle three? ;)

The standing ovation he received when he pinch hit on opening day is still one of my top 3/4 sports moments of all time.

I firmly believe there is an alternate reality out there, somewhere, where he and Joey Votto led the Reds to a World Series title in 2010.

For the record, Dusty hit Votto and Bruce back to back around half the games last year, and had three lefties in a row around 15 games.

So The Talk Of Signing Fielder And Allowing Hamilton To Walk Isn't Hard Evidence. It Was Reported By Jerry Crasnick. Maybe Not Indication They Want Him Out Of Their System Yesterday So To Speak But An Indication That They Are Willing To Go Another Route In 2013. Having 6 OFer's On Your 40 Man Roster Isn't Unreal But It Certainly Has To Bring Up The Question. It Was A Fan Proposal Though And I Was Merely Getting The Consensus Of ORG.

I'd trade Adam Dunn for him, Hamilton has enough power to hit one to the Ohio River ala "the donkey shift" and he can field his position.

For the record, Dusty hit Votto and Bruce back to back around half the games last year, and had three lefties in a row around 15 games.

Baker's reluctance to hit lefties back to back was based on certain lefties who LOOGY's killed late in games.

Griffey had difficulty with lefties later in in his career. Dunn always had problems.

Votto has always killed lefties, and Bruce has hit lefties better than righties over his last two seasons. That's why Baker has hit them back to back on multiple occasions.

Nope.

Penny's not a guy I ever envisioned heading to Japan.
