If you had to rate how shocked you are the Reds are going to pay Votto $200 million over 10 years, you would put it at what?

Same here. This front office is ridiculously tight lipped.

I was shocked at the dollar amount and length of deal but not that they got a deal done. It was a very pleasant surprise to start the week, that's for sure.

Amazed that we locked up Votto for 12 years, expensive as it is, the money seems right.

I gave it a "say what". Happy about it-lil nervous as I would be for any player with that long term/money, but glad we are ableto keep him here! AS a bonus, we get to keep MRoby around here too :)

I should probably stop just short of I "knew" it, but I did expect the Reds would make a huge offer to him. I wasn't completely sure he would accept or that it would be 10 yrs instead of 8ish.

I have no proof of this, of course, but I would not be surprized if the league ponyed up some cash to help the Reds on this deal. I don't think they wanted ALL 3 of the best 1st basemen in the game all going to the cash rich AL.

And if they did: kudos!

We did pay up for Junior, so it's not like the Reds have always been miserly.

How many of you see Votto playing out the entire contract in Cincy? I have a feeling that if the Reds go through two or more bad years, he could be on the trading block at some point.

He reportedly has a NO TRADE clause, there will be no trading block. We are (happily) stuck with him for the next 12 seasons.

This may be the ultimate up yours to the St Louis front office - they couldn't sign their super star.
