Hopefully my starting this game thread ends this extra innings funk:

Harris 4
Cozart 6
Votto 3
Bruce 9
Cairo 5
Heisey 7
Stubbs 8
Mesoraco 2
Bailey 1

Reds facing Edwin Jackson

Get 'er done today, boys!

I guess BP isn't quite ready. Or maybe his contract is so big that the Reds are just afraid to let him play!

Even though Harris is limited, I like the top of the order today. Harris, Cozart, Votto, Bruce should mount some attack. All the team's lefties, nearly in a row.

Hopefully, the right handed brigade that follows them will do something too

Stubbs OPS is so low that I hope the famous "law of averages" takes over for today's outing.

I'm predicting the Reds will score some runs today, which itself is worth the price of admission. Up to Bailey.

So, who in that bullpen is available today. Lecure and Arredondo I'd assume, but probably not for more than an inning. Bray? Had a short outing, but can he go back to back days yet. Simon? Probabaly not. Ondrusek? He went an inning and two-thirds and was just rested Friday for too much work. Not sure about him. Marshall? He should be good to go. I wonder if the Reds were trying to save Chapman to come in if Bailey falters and to let him go 4 or 5 innings if need be. Since he went an inning yesterday, I'm not sure about that now.

They may add an arm for a few days if they DL Cairo. It may depend on how deep Homer goes today and how many guys they need to use in the pen today.

Kc61
04-14-2012, 04:58 PM
OK -- for all you Homer fans who say his K/BB rate is great and all that.

Here is the umpteenth example of his inability to cope with men on base and the slightest hint of trouble. At some point, every game, he falls apart just enough to put the Reds in trouble.

I don't know if he intentionally nibbles, or if he loses command, or what.

Bronson Arroyo, with inferior stuff, rises to the occasion with men on base. Homer goes into the tank.

LOL. I love it. Cue Doug and "Homer had the 5th-best slider in MLB last year" and BS like that. People are so quick to dismiss (or not even consider) the mental aspect of the game. Homer just doesn't have the mental toughness IMO to be a good MLB pitcher on a consistent basis. I would LOVE to be wrong on that, obviously. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be. Sure he is. Just watch his at bats. He obviously wants to go deep into the count and often succeeds.

He's a weaker hitter than previously, for sure, but I think he still is patient.

Scott Rolen came in to today with a 3.35 P/PA.

Jay Bruce is at 4.09.

3.35 doesn't sound bad to me. I don't know what average is.

Rolen is a patient hitter. His numbers will reflect that by year's end. Just watch his at bats, he's not just hacking away.

His contact has been weak though.
