View Full Version : The most frustrating thing Dusty does, IMHO...

The Reds haven't even played 25 games, and Dusty has already given our 27 year old SS three days off. Not because of injury or ineffectiveness, but to "give him a day off."

A 27 YEAR OLD DOES NOT NEED SEVERAL DAYS OFF A YEAR TO REST, LET ALONE SEVERAL DAYS OFF IN THE FIRST TWENTY PERCENT OF THE SEASON! THIS IS PARTICULARLY THE CASE WHEN YOU'VE JUST RECENTLY HAD BACK TO BACK DAYS OFF!

We aren't that far removed from an era when players went out for all 162 games unless they were hurt. We know more about training and diet now. Players don't drink and smoke the way they used to. Current ball players should be more prepared to play every game than players of any era.

On that same subject. If you want Scott Rolen to be healthy late in the season, HE ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO SIT MORE OFTEN! HE SHOULDN'T BE PLAYING MORE THAN SIXTY PERCENT OF THE TIME! Dusty thinks he can get away with sitting this old, ineffective veteran only on day games after a night game.

I don't think it was a physical day off. He had been slumping, though I think that had more to do with him not being comfortable leading off, but sometimes a mental day off can get a guy going again.

I have no issues with selective sitting of a basic rookie even if he is 27. The issue is whom is his backup...Rookies need to be handled with kid gloves their first season..

I got home in time to see the 10th inning on MLB Network. Cozart made two impressive plays on defense, then ignited the game-winning rally and scored the game-winning run. I'm not at all a Dusty fan, but I have a hard time arguing with the way he handled Cozart in this one.

Marmol threw 18 pitches, only six of them strikes.

"Sometimes he's throwing strikes, and then he's practically unhittable," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "The key is to swing at strikes and make him throw balls. We don't have a whole lot of guys who hit him well."

The OBP conceptually-challenged Baker can't just state the obvious...."make him throw strikes".

He has to somehow turn it on its head.

The key is to swing at strikes and make him throw balls.

This doesn't even make any sense. None whatsoever. How does swinging at strikes make him throw balls? It doesn't. How does a batter make a pitcher throw balls? How?

Baseball genius.

It only makes sense when one considers the X through "WALK" on the Dusty Dice.

Funny thing about today's lineup. At school today I walked into the library and the librarian/reading specialist said you won't believe today's lineup...I said nothing could surprise me.

He says, "Heisey is leading off"...immediately I respond...."no Stubbs eh" He wanted to know how I knew that and it's so easy.....CF bats first or second. Then he says...Harris 2nd and I said "no Cozart either?"

I then told him we'd find a way to win and genius up Dusty.

Reds #4 hitters this season

.178/.259/.277

Last in the majors....I imagine by a lot.

Please get over the potential matchup in the 7th and bat Jay Bruce 4th....he may not be the best ever batting 4th....but is clearly our best option.

Do it.
