He's been great for the Dodgers this year. He's hitting .327 and has been a Rey Ordonez highlight reel at 3rd.

The guy can play anywhere. Back with the Reds they threw him in CF for a couple of games and he made one of the best plays I have ever seen.

How long has he been considered a bench player?

Has always been a "bench" guy. When he was with the Reds, the Baker blasters were critical of him because he was with Dusty in Chicago, blah, blah. JHJ is invaluable in the NL and on my APBA team

I've always liked how he plays the game and his passion even after all these years. It'll be interesting to see how long he holds up playing most days for the Dodgers....but the number of tremendous plays he has made on defense is impressive to say the least.

He will hit a steady .265, a bit of pop, good defense at 2b, 3b, of and in a pinch can play short. Bonus, great leader, future manager.

Been a BIG JHJ fan since he was w/the Reds. I was very disappointed when they let him go.

The Reds did not let Jerry Hairston, Jr. go for nothing. They traded him for Chase Weems. Okay, I guess they did let him go for nothing.

Yeah now we get to watch W. Harris and W. Valdez instead of these quality guys that we let go.

Dusty wanted to keep him, Reds wanted to look more at Janish in July, Aug of 2009, in fact traded Edgar Gonzo to Boston as well.

Lol....thought that was an Alex Gonzalez + Edgar Renteria person.

Hairston left today's game with a hamstring issue

Can't blame them for that. Nearly everyone would've let Hairston go to give Janish more time when the move was made. He was supposed to be the short stop of the future, but we know how that turned out. I think everyone knew he wasn't going to be great offensively, but no one could've seen how horrible he'd actually be at the plate...

Of all our recent SS style bench players, I wish we still had Keppinger.

Loved him when he was with us back in 2009. Plays hard every single play and being a third generation Major Leaguer, you know he is a smart player. The epitome of a utility player.

I liked Hairston when he was here, but lets not overreact to 58 ABs this season. He hasnt even been league average as a hitter since posting good numbers with the Reds in 08.

HOF

We had him, most of us approved of him as a utility player...loved his fire and defensive excellence around the diamond. We have Cairo and Valdez.
