George Costanza will lead us to victory. I have a good feeling.

R_Webb18
05-19-2012, 12:37 PM
atleast give us a lineup that we have a chance with.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:10 PM
atleast give us a lineup that we have a chance with.

We don't have the players to produce a lineup like that. When you've got four (maybe) legitimate hitters, any lineup you put out there is going to look awful.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:11 PM
Did I just hear right that our leadoff position is getting on base at a .188 clip?

Stray
05-19-2012, 01:13 PM
I wonder if Votto is one of the guys who doesn't like people running when he's at the plate, or if it's all on Stubbs. He should be running either way.

Stray
05-19-2012, 01:13 PM
Nice

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:14 PM
OK, time to do something here Brandon.

Stray
05-19-2012, 01:15 PM
That's an issue with Stubbs running out of the 2 hole. It will open up a base for Votto to get more walks.

BP has to make them pay.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:16 PM
That'll work. 1-0 Redlegs.

Stray
05-19-2012, 01:16 PM
And we are one the board. Only took us two days!

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:18 PM
Come on Jay.

Stray
05-19-2012, 01:18 PM
Terrible at bat.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:18 PM
At-bats like that keep me from thinking Bruce will ever be a superstar. Way too easy.

At-bats like that keep me from thinking Bruce will ever be a superstar. Way too easy.

perfectly stated....

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:21 PM
Frazier swings straight through two four-seamers, and whatd'ya know, the Reds leave another runner stranded at third.

Stray
05-19-2012, 01:21 PM
Say what you want about Phillips, but when he is given an opportunity to get a guy home with less than 2 outs he usually gets the job done.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:23 PM
And if you're counting at home, yes, that is another pitcher striking out the side against the Reds. Nobody needs to tell me this team doesn't have a strikeout problem.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:24 PM
Little worried about Homer today. He pitched good last time, but those long fly-outs in Atlanta have a way of leaving the park here.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:24 PM
Homer not in the same zip code as the strike zone yet.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:25 PM
Whoa. Jay made that an adventure. 1 out.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:28 PM
Homer gets them 1-2-3.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:30 PM
Prediction for the day - Costanzo gets his first major league hit today.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:32 PM
But not this at-bat.

Sigh.

Another strikeout. :(

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:33 PM
Mes with a ground-rule double just past Ibanez. Two chances to knock him in here.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:35 PM
Oh boy. Valdez swinging at balls in his eyes, then takes a bad slider right down the middle.

Strikeout #5 for Nova.

Stray
05-19-2012, 01:35 PM
5 outs - 5 strikeouts

If you're the hitting coach on a team who can't hit the ball, what exactly are you even doing?

CU2morrownite
05-19-2012, 01:36 PM
5 K's so far

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:36 PM
Heisey!! RBI double. 2-0 Reds.

Mutaman
05-19-2012, 01:37 PM
The playing of Costanzo, as desperate as it is, is the first indication in several years that this organization cares about the lefty/righty percentages. Too bad they didn't care back in January.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:37 PM
Stray, I was thinking the same thing about our hitting coach. Most of our guys go up there and look like they have no plan other than swing hard. By most I mean an overwhelming majority.

DirtyBaker
05-19-2012, 01:38 PM
GABP needs a kids Wilson Valdez beard night

Stray
05-19-2012, 01:39 PM
That was ball 4

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:39 PM
Whoa. Low pitch to Stubbs called a strike. Would have been ball 4.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:39 PM
6 strikeouts in 2 innings. This is comical.

CU2morrownite
05-19-2012, 01:40 PM
unbelievable...

Stray
05-19-2012, 01:40 PM
And that was ball 5.

6 outs - 6 Ks

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:40 PM
Nova correctly realizes that all he has to do with two strikes is bounce a curveball and our entire batting order will swing at it.

Stray
05-19-2012, 01:42 PM
I mean really. I give Brian Price some credit because you can see improvement in our pitchers. You can tell he's been working with them and with a few it's coming together. I gotta question what Jacoby is even doing on this team.

DirtyBaker
05-19-2012, 01:42 PM
O/U on Reds' strikeouts for the game is what? 15?

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:42 PM
Thank you A-Rod. Quick flyout. 1 down.

joshua
05-19-2012, 01:42 PM
Six strikeouts after two innings...Stubbs going from 3-0 to striking out at an obvious ball? A serious major league club doesn't let the same problems fester like this year after year after year like the Reds do.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:43 PM
I figure Nova and the Reds lineup are working in tandem to pay tribute to Kerry Wood. I'm thinking 20+ K's today.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:45 PM
Nice work, Homer. 1-2-3 inning.

Votto leading off in 3rd.

Stray
05-19-2012, 01:45 PM
Even if it's all on the players who are just terrible at hitting the ball, doesn't Jacoby have to lose his job still?

We're almost a quarter of the way through the season, this is no longer a slump.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:48 PM
Votto getting in on the act. Swings at slider in the dirt. 7 strikeouts.

Stray
05-19-2012, 01:49 PM
7 outs - 7 Ks

Maybe we can go for 27 today.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:49 PM
A groundout!!! Oh my god a groundout!!!

Stray
05-19-2012, 01:49 PM

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:50 PM
0-2. Here comes a slider in the dirt.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:51 PM
Oh, it wasn't in the dirt and Bruce still missed it. 8 strikeouts through 3 innings.

CU2morrownite
05-19-2012, 01:51 PM
Bruce is just awful lately

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:51 PM
That's at least four guys that have struck out on three pitches also. Not even making the guy work hard to strike us out.

RedsFanInBama

Homer gives up first pitch Homer to Russell Martin.

2-1 now.

Hopefully he keeps it together...

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:56 PM
Homer gets a strikeout then a single for Nix.

Jeter back up, 1 on, 1 out.

We will not have the lead by the end of this half inning if I had to guess.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 01:57 PM

Strikeout #9.

RedsFanInBama

osuredleg24

RedsFanInBama

Long flyout by A-Rod to the fence in center. 2 out, man on first.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 02:17 PM
Ibanez doubles home Cano. 2-2.

Well, it was a nice 3 1/2 innings. Except for us striking out 9 times.

malcontent
05-19-2012, 02:21 PM
Someone was commenting last night on Jocketty signing Ludwick for 2X what the LHH Ibanez is getting.

Good point. Sure that bush league short porch helps, but it looks like he wasn't finished after all.

RedsFanInBama

05-19-2012, 02:25 PM
I'd have Stubbs bunt

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 02:25 PM
At this point Ibanez probably values the chance to win a title more than he does an extra $1 million. Did we pay too much for Ludiwck? Yes. However, I don't think you can draw any conclusions other than that.

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 02:26 PM
I'd have Stubbs bunt

They don't want to take the bat out of Votto's hands.

Stray
05-19-2012, 02:26 PM

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 02:26 PM

RedsFanInBama
05-19-2012, 02:32 PM

I think every team in the majors would MUCH rather throw to Phillips with the bases loaded than Votto with men on second and third.

Not much to show for it today but Stubbs has had good AB's today. At least he's showing more discipline taking Nova deep into the count before his 3rd inning K. He at least is making an effort to Get Joey to the plate with a runner aboard.

I can't answer this question without coming across as negative, so I'll just say that I disagree. Although Clay Rapada's reputation as having a bad move has been earned through his time in the major leagues. That was bad baseball by Stubbs. It's one thing to get picked off if you're looking to run, but he clearly was staying put and just got caught napping.

You're limiting Stubbs' game by expecting him to stay awake on base.

Next thing you'll be expecting him to bunt more than five times per season.

Personally, nice guy or not, I've seen way more than enough from him.

This team is one of the reasons I've pretty much abandoned the "strikeouts don't matter all that much" philosophy. Granted if you can balance it with some walks and perhaps even more importantly home runs you may still have a fighting chance. But I'll probably always be fairly old school on that point that there's a better chance of something good happening if you put it in play than if you don't.
