Five years ago today I began the "This Date In Reds History" threads, and this was the first lineup I posted. I was sitting at the computer thinking about Jerry Narron's somewhat puzzling lineups, when an idea came to me: "What did some of the Reds' lineups on this date in the past look like?" I thought of looking up some of the World Champion lineups from 1975, 1976, and 1990, but then I thought, "Fifty is a nice, round number. What was happening fifty years ago?" I knew that some of the great names of the Reds' past were on the team back then--Robbie, Klu, Post, Bell, Temple, McMillan, Bailey, Nux--so I looked them up. Little did I know that they had administered a beatdown to the hated Cubs on that date! The thread was well-received by the board, and from that beginning it developed into what it is today.

Thanks for doing this all these years. I didn't realize it had been this long. I'm probably repeating myself too much on some of these games that I actually attended. This is a lot of work you do and I love looking at these nearly everyday.
