Here's an excerpt that tells you what Doug is referring to about Brean being a superb athlete:
Seth Mejias-Brean's stellar junior season has inevitably led to comparisons - but not to other baseball players.

To hear the Arizona Wildcats third baseman's teammates tell it, Mejias-Brean is a cross between Paul Bunyan and Chuck Norris, with a little Roy Hobbs mixed in.

Hand the UA's starting third baseman a football, and he'll throw it 60 or 70 yards.

"They call him Tebow," coach Andy Lopez said.

Give Mejias-Brean a basketball, and he'll show off a 360-degree slam dunk.

"He's just a freak," outfielder Robert Refsnyder said.

But Mejias-Brean is at his best with a bat in his hands. His batting practice sessions are legendary, complete with towering home runs and crushed line drives that send teammates dodging.

At 6 feet 2 inches and 210 pounds, the Cienega High graduate fills out a uniform better than anybody on the team. Pro scouts love his projectability, whether it's at third base, in the outfield or at catcher - a position he's never played before.

"I mean, look at his body," shortstop Alex Mejia said. "You can see him playing in the big leagues, like, next year.

"I've never seen a player like him. When he hits it, and the ball's flying out, it's hit so hard. ... Really, it's almost like the thing is yelling."

Is Arizona in the college WS? Just wondering if we can see him or any of our other college draftees

He sounds like a steal in the 8th round.

Yesterday SMB went 3-5 with a 2B. The highlight has an RBI single at the :30 mark. Arizona is first team to advance to CWS.

One more #CWS performer for #Reds: #Arizona 3B Seth Mejias-Brean for $125k ($136,300 pick value). Good defender, gap power. #mlbdraft

Really like this pick. Doesn't seem to have much HR power, but is a good all-around hitter with some pop, can run relatively well and is good defensively. Can't complain at all getting a player like that in the 8th round, especially at a position like 3B.

I think the home run power might come with this guy. He is amazing athletically. If nothing else he has the ability to be a doubles hitting machine at third base. Defensively he should be able to cover with exceptional range and agility. I'm liking this pick as the bonus pick of the draft - the low round guy who surprises big time.

Transactions: Rob Wooten activated from DL, Nick Routt to TI, Beau Amaral transferred from Billings & Seth Mejias-Brean traded to SEA.

Fare thee well, SMB. Your early career production in Dayton and Bakersfield had me dreaming on the possibility of a 2nd division starter. But Pensacola, and especially Louisville, were not so kind.

Once a Wahoo, always a Wahoo ! What did Reds get for him in return ? Crate of printing paper.

As you can tell from my early posts on SMB he was a huge disappointment for me. Freak athlete just not good at hitting at the pro level. I wish him well in Seattle.

I was always an SMB-sceptic. The Cal League in 2014 must have just some real rag arms. Bakersfield had a team OBP of .359, and they weren't even first in the league for OBP.

The Cal League is a notorious hitters league, so obviously you get some mirages. But SMB showed good patience/pop in Dayton before that and had been solid in college, so there was some reason for optimism.

The guy I never bought was Waldrop, whose BB/K ratio always portended a crash. Incidentally he and SMB could be teammates now with the Tacoma Rainers, though Waldrop is back in AA to begin the year for Seattle.

I always get excited when I see a minor leaguer with that kind of K:BB ratio. Before scouting was as prevalent on the internet, I would've tagged him as a guy the Reds shouldn't give up on. The same goes for Chad Wallach. Then again, Ryan Hanigan was another one who came out of nowhere and proved useful. I wish him the best.
