If my first name were Elwin I would go by Preacher too. I wonder if he really was a preacher or just looked liked the typical preacher of the day? He was a good pitcher for Brooklyn Dodgers back in the Boys of Summer days.

I believe he got the nickname as a small child (around 3 or 4 years old) in Arkansas when the local pastor would take him on horse-and-buggy rides.

According to baseball-reference.com, his Most Similar player is Tom Browning.
