View Full Version : Joey Votto- What to do with him?

Votto is really becoming a problem. He is hurting opposing pitchers' feelings, making other Reds hitters looking like they are not doing their jobs, his doubles beg for Bruce to be IBB'd, he is not won a gold glove since last season, and he is on a pace to be caught stealing 6 times. I think he needs to go to Louisville to work on his fundamentals.

I have some breaking news for everyone:

Joey Votto is really good at baseball.

One more foul out from him and he should be released. Those foul HRs are getting old too.

On pace to break the record number of doubles in a season. Doubles. Gak. That's like kissing your sister.

Funny record, mostly 20's and 30's... leader played in a Fenway a huge hitters park in the 30's known for doubles.

Only two recent guys on top ten list, both from 2000

2000... note that season the 2nd highest MLB OPS in modern history

Votto is on pace for 71... in a HR park that has had lower 2b rates in the past

I would probably send him to the minors after his performance tonight. Striking out is unacceptable.

I will say that my heart was in the pit of my stomach the other night when he fouled that pitch off his knee. I really thought he broke something.

Joey needs to work on his clichés.
When he's interviewed, he refuses to give the standard answer.

For example:

Q: Was this a very important win for the team?

Baker Answer: "Oh Yeah. BIG TIME. Coming from behind and after the Pittsburgh series. Yeah, we needed this one"

Joey Answer: "No. All wins are the same. It doesn't matter"

I enjoy it but he drives guys like Day and Pecoro crazy.

Wasn't there another rumor about him getting the daughter of the family he was staying with pregnant? That one was equally as ridiculous.

He killed their rally in the third inning last night with his HR. They "only" got 3 runs. (note, that was an actual quote from Brantley earlier this week).

"I, for one, would like to see more pulled foul balls from him, just to prove he can turn around on a pitch. Did you know he hasn't done that since his rookie year? These opposite field home runs and doubles, frankly, are getting to be too much. Teams aren't even shifting anymore."

Votto didn't even reach base Sunday. He's obviously washed up. I'd like to see them package him and Hanigan to Oakland for Kurt Suzuki.

You could do a three team deal with Oakland and Seattle where Oakland would get Votto, Seattle would get Kurt Suzuki, and the Reds would get Kevin Millwood and Brendan Ryan. I think the Reds would be getting the better of the deal :) :D

To have a monster talent like JV and to sign him to contract like they did and then bat two guys with sub-.300 OBPs in front of him with nobody behind him to protect him is pitiful. The fact that it has basically been this way for three years is unconscionable.

Walt and Dusty both deserve swift kicks in the rear for that alone.

I'm still concerned about Joey. No RBI in 3 games! No extra base hits in his last 2. Only 39-78 over his last 22 games. He's made outs in 50% of his at-bats over that span!

I'd say we send him down if we can re-do his contract.
