Rolen in the lineup. Roster move yet to be announced although I'd assume it's Negron....

Cozart SS
Heisey CF
Votto 1B
Phillips 2B
Bruce RF
Ludwick LF
Rolen 3B
Frazier DH
Hanigan C

Latos P

Having a DH in this series is the perfect scenario for Rolen's return: Rolen's glove > Frazier's, Rolen's bat > Pitcher's, Frazier's bat still in lineup.

7 in a row...

OBP:
Cozart -1st- .308
Heisey - 2nd - 311

Frazier - 8th - .343
Hanigan - 9th .- 365

Makes perfect sense. Keep the guys that get on base BEHIND Joey Votto. And make sure they get the fewest at-bats.

Lucky 7 tonight no matter what. Votto and Phillips are hitting well and Derek Lowe is going down! If Latos pitches like last time out this game is in the bag by the fifth inning.

To be fair, Cozart has a .415 OBP in the last 15 days. I'll be the first to tell you that I was not thrilled about him being moved to the lead-off spot. He really has looked like a very different, more comfortable guy there the last two weeks, though.

Don't know if he's turned a bit of a corner or is just on a hot streak, but I'm not sure I'd drop him in the lineup until we know for sure.

I value OBP a tremendous amount when I watch baseball and put together my fantasy lineups. All the same, I'm not sure I like Frazier and Hanigan at the top of our lineup. If anything, I'd stay let Todd hit cleanup a few times to see how he responds, but know that's a lot of pressure on a rookie. I have to admit, I like a little pop towards the bottom of the lineup with Frazier in there today.

texasdave
06-18-2012, 05:59 PM
I guess I would just like to see somebody batting in the 1 and 2 holes that can get on consistently for Votto. The names aren't really important. And Cozart looks like a pretty good bet to end up being a solid major leaguer. I still believe they are wasting Hanigan in the 8th (or 9th) spot in the lineup.

Kingspoint
06-18-2012, 06:34 PM
As long as they keep winning, there is zero chance of Dusty changing anything...and really why would you?Because six games ago, they had just lost five out of seven. Rolen should bat last, like the hitter he is at this point of his career. That was one pathetic lineup out there yesterday. Clutch hitting by Phillips and an error by the other team is the only reason we got any runs.

Frazier should be batting 4th or 5th, Hanigan 1st or 2nd, and Rolen dead last. Even if Rolen goes on a "hot" streak, where he OPS's .750 for a week or two, he should still be batting last.

Latos' starts this year have been against offenses with the following rankings:

30th
26th
24th
24th
22nd
21st
21st
20th
20th
16th
14th
13th
3rd

He's not exactly facing a bunch of world beaters.

Edited because I had it sorted by the wrong category. This is a list of OPS by teamNice post. That really puts his starts in perspective. Thank goodness he's only 24 years old. But, not everybody improves as they get older. Doc Gooden got worse every year. But, then Doc Gooden did crack and cocaine for most of his career.

Why don't pitchers move from side to side on the rubber? Give hitters different looks?Good Question. Did you see Felix Hernandez' explanation last night on why he pitched better last night than he had been this season? He said that in previous years he used to start his windup facing directly to home plate. He'd gotten away from that this year and began his delivery at about a 30-45 degree angle off of home plate. Last night he went back to facing directly home plate and had outstanding results.

I imagine they don't move around because even the smallest of changes can really throw off a pitcher.

If you're just going to toss guys out of the system by claiming they're blocked, don't draft catchers and first basemen even if they are the BPA. Draft what your organization needs. If we're just going to take the BPA and trade them for pennies on the dollar under the guise of "he was blocked, so he didn't have much value," then we're run by a bunch of idiots.

Latos is league average. Maybe slightly above. Most teams would kill to have Boxberger, Grandal and Alonso. Volquez and Latos are a wash right now. Face it. The trade was a bust.

I try to keep reminding myself of that, but it's easy to be impatient with a 24 year old who has a 2 year track record like Latos.
It reminds me of the conversation I had earlier about Encarnacion. The Reds shipped him off as a 26 year old, and many fans had already given up on him. It was just easy to get discouraged about a guy who had hit .289 with 16 HR and 76 RBI as a 24 year old and then regressed.

I don't like to give up on players who are under age 27 who have already had "some" successful seasons in the league. The potential for one or two excellent seasons at the age 27 and age 28 seasons to happen are just too possible. Latos will have some outstanding seasons in the future and it's likely he's going to be a RED when it happens. Pitchers are always a risk. They are fluky by nature.
