If Leake can't get the inside corner with his front door fastball the Indians' lefties will pound him. Hopefully the ump is at least decent tonight.

Hopefully, Joey Votto will get an at-bat with runners on.

texasdave
06-19-2012, 03:47 PM
I didn't think the ump was bad until the top of the ninth. I thought he was consistently not calling that pitch on the inside corner a strike. And that's what all the players always say. As long as the ump is consistent with his strike zone they can deal with it.

texasdave
06-19-2012, 03:54 PM
You almost could not have picked two better starting pitchers for Scott Rolen to face in his first two games back. Neither Lowe nor Tomlin are hard throwers. There fastball comes in at Scott Rolen bat speed. I am calling for a yakker from Rolen tonight.

In baseball, yak is a term given when someone hits a home run. Hitting a yak is the same as hitting a long home run. ChaCha!

Yeah I can see why players would say that, but last night was consistently terrible for the pitchers. I'd rather have a correct strike zone, not the one a particular umpire decides to use.

texasdave
06-19-2012, 03:56 PM
The strike zone was on the smallish side to be certain. It expanded like Todd Coffey's waistline in the ninth though.

Someone needs to slap these umpires and remind them what the strike zone is and CALL IT...

i know its tied but for some reason it feels like we have about a 5% chance of winning this game.

I feel the same. Eventually the Indians are gonna score some runs. Hopefully the reds somehow can first

Frazier is 8 for 33 w/ RISP after starting the season out 1 for 13 after that at-bat. So, he's 7 for his last 20 w/ RISP.

....so he's under .250

AnythingCincy

Leake at 80 pitches through 4 innings. Tomlin at 60 pitches through 5 innings.

If Rolen makes 2 plays he would have less pitches.

Votto's last three years are like Dale Murphy's years in Atlanta. The guy was a two-time MVP, who had no protection around him. He managed to do everything he did in spite of never getting anything to hit. Votto's lucky if he see's one pitch to hit per at-bat....two or three per game at the most.

Wrong Dale had the best players ever...Claudell Washington, Rafael Ramirez, Glenn Hubbard, Bruce Benedict...Bob Horner was pretty good.Horner gave him some good protection for a few years, but you're joking about the others, right? Murphy's biggest problem was that the last half of his career covered the beginning of the steroids' era, so that his numbers seem miniscule compared with others from '87 and on. People forget that it was 1985, or 1986 where only one or two players in the National League finished the season with a Slugging over .500, with Daryl Strawberry being one of them, and that was only about .502 or something. The game really became manipulated towards the homerun beginning in 1987.
