Feierabend has actually only allowed one hit through 5 2/3. Gathright has two hits to bring his BA up to .302.

06-24-2012, 02:42 PM
Robert Stephenson takes the mound for Billings in 18 minutes.

06-24-2012, 02:43 PM
Daniel Corcino threw another no hit inning to start today. He did walk 3 batters and gave up a run though. Blue Wahoos down 1-0. Gregorius had a single in the first.

Also a wild pitch for Corcino in the first inning. Looks like he had a real wild start of the game.

Edd Roush
06-24-2012, 02:58 PM
Louisville doesn't score in the top of the 7th despite Joey Gathright's third hit of the day.

Edd Roush
06-24-2012, 02:59 PM
Corcino walks another batter in the second, but then gets the next three. 1-0 Lookouts after two. PJ Phillips leads off with a single in the top of three.

06-24-2012, 03:00 PM
Quezada gets through the top of four without giving up a run. Still 1-0 Dragons in the middle of four.

06-24-2012, 03:06 PM
Feierabend gets through the bottom of the seventh without allowing a run, despite giving up a walk. Tack on two more Ks for him which brings him to five on the day.

Edd Roush
06-24-2012, 03:07 PM
No runs for Pensacola in the top of the third. Corcino popped up a bunt, and then LaMarre popped out. PJ Phillips did steal second, but then Gregorius K'd.

Edd Roush
06-24-2012, 03:11 PM
Of Corcino's first 50 pitches today, 31 are balls. Ouch.

Edd Roush
06-24-2012, 03:12 PM
Yorman singled in the bottom of the fourth. No runs for the Dragons in the bottom of four. 1-0 Dragons after four.

Bowling Green adds one in the top of five on a bomb. Now 1-1 in the middle of five.

06-24-2012, 03:53 PM
Stephenson two hitless innings. One walk and two batters struck out. Billings leads 1-0. Dickinson homered. Excuse me. Winker does have a double.

06-24-2012, 03:58 PM
Hoover and Joseph finish off the shutout for Louisville, 2-0. Bats pitchers gave up only three hits--two by Joseph. Gathright had four by himself--more than half of Louisville's total.

06-24-2012, 04:10 PM
Pensacola tied it 3-3 with three in the sixth. Beau Mills came up big again with a 2-run double. Corcino was relieved by Serrano after four innings.

06-24-2012, 04:11 PM
Stephenson finally blinked, giving up three in the third (two earned). Billings trails 3-1.

06-24-2012, 04:29 PM
Stephenson's final line:

4.0 4 3 1 1 4 0 2.00

Groundouts-flyouts: Stephenson 4-1
Batters faced: Stephenson 17

06-24-2012, 04:35 PM
Brian Pearl, trying to build on the great success he had out of the Bakersfield bullpen, gave the three runs right back--plus one--and Pensacola trails 7-3 after six.

06-24-2012, 04:47 PM
Dayton drops a 3-2 decision. Kyle Waldrop and Yovan Gonzalez each went 2-3 with a walk. Quezada and Cole Green pitched well.

06-24-2012, 04:49 PM
Brodie Greene's second 2-run double keys a 2-run rally and Pensacola pulls within 7-5 in the seventh.

06-24-2012, 04:57 PM
scoring change in the Billings game removed one of Stephenson's earned runs. It has been reflected in the numbers above.

06-24-2012, 05:09 PM
A three-run shot by Brandon Dailey puts Billings up 4-3 in the middle of the seventh.

06-24-2012, 05:25 PM
Beau Mills unloads again. A three-run bomb in the top of the ninth with Greene (3-4) and Brian Peacock (2-4) aboard gives Pensacola an 8-7 lead headed into the bottom. The Wahoos have scored all eight runs from the sixth inning on.

06-24-2012, 05:33 PM
Justin Freeman finishes it and Pensacola pulls out a nice come-from-behind victory, 8-7.

The Wahoos' lineup is not the strongest, but Mills seems to have given it a nice boost. Given the very strong pitching on that roster, Pensacola could be poised to make a run in the second half.

06-24-2012, 05:42 PM
Billings goes down, 6-4.

06-24-2012, 06:23 PM
Looks like Steph... ran into some problems today with the defense 1 ER while 4 were scored...

06-24-2012, 07:17 PM
Pat Doyle took a pounding (though three runs were unearned) and Bakersfield trails 9-5 in the middle of the seventh. Hamilton has two walks and two steals (89). Bowe also has two steals. Selsky has a pair of doubles.

Not sure why Justice French has been lately pitching out of the bullpen instead of the rotation. I suppose it could be an innings thing.

06-24-2012, 07:49 PM
Hamilton's up to 90. Kurtis Muller hit a 2-run HR for Bakersfield to pull the Blaze within 9-7 in the top of the 9th. With one out, Hamilton singled and stole on the first pitch, his third of the day. Seems like an odd time to steal except that it precludes the DP.

06-24-2012, 07:50 PM
Singles by Niko Vasquez and Dominic D'Anna make it 9-8 with one out, runners on first and second.

Bakersfield has made five errors in the game.

06-24-2012, 07:51 PM
Mattair's weak single to right ties the game. The runners advance to second and third on the throw. Duran up.

06-24-2012, 07:53 PM
Duran bounces one off the SS for an infield single. D'Anna scores to give the Blaze a 10-9 lead but Mattair is tagged out between second and third.

Edit: They changed it to an error on the SS.

06-24-2012, 07:55 PM
Selsky doubles to right. Second and third with two outs (still 10-9). The outs came on a disputed third strike call (on Bowe) and the baserunning gaffe.

06-24-2012, 07:59 PM
Chris Berset, who started the inning with a single, smacks a double down the right field line to plate two more. Seven runs for Bakersfield in the ninth to make it 12-9. The Blaze's biggest inning of the season.

06-24-2012, 07:59 PM
Muller singles in Berset. Eight runs in the inning. It's 13-9. Crazy.

06-24-2012, 08:02 PM
Bowe's stand-up triple scores Muller. Tenth hit of the inning. Nine runs. It's 14-9.

06-24-2012, 08:05 PM
Hamilton draws his third walk of the game. They're not holding him on, but he's not running.

Vasquez walks to load the bases.

06-24-2012, 08:09 PM
D'Anna bounces out to finally end the top of the ninth. Fifteen men to the plate. Ten hits. Nine runs.

06-24-2012, 08:16 PM
Chris Joyce makes short work of the bottom of the 9th--his second perfect inning--and Bakersfield wins 14-9.

Scrap Irony
06-24-2012, 10:05 PM
Hamilton now has a 14% BB rate to go along with his 16% K rate. For the year, his obp is over .425, his SB rate is over 84% and his slugging is over .450.

Last ten games, he's hitting .400, with 11 BBs and 6 Ks. He's also stolen at least one base in nine of the past 10 games.

In June's 20 games (97 ABs), Hamilton has the following numbers:

.370/ 21 BB/ 13 Ks/ 33 SB/ 5 CS /.505 OBP/ .452 SLG/ .957 OPS

So, to sum up:

Great at the beginning of the year, struggled as pitchers adjusted, even better now that he's adjusted back.
Showing signs of figuring out high K rate AND improving his eye at the plate.

There have been some lean times for some of the Reds farm clubs this year, but I get the feeling it may just be growing pains. I think that come next season, there may just be some pretty decent talent at all levels.

06-24-2012, 10:34 PM
Mitch Clarke gets the start tonight and retires the Padres 1-2-3 in the top of the first with 2 K's.

The AZL Reds lineup:

Ty Washington 2B
Tanner Rahier 3B
Denis Phipps LF
Donald Lutz DH
Brayan Arias CF
Argenis Aldazoro RF
Ponciano Flores 1B
Julio Morillo C
Brent Peterson SS

There have been some lean times for some of the Reds farm clubs this year, but I get the feeling it may just be growing pains. I think that come next season, there may just be some pretty decent talent at all levels.

06-24-2012, 10:49 PM
The AZL Reds comes up with two in the bottom of the first. Rahier doubled, moved to second on a PB and scored on a Denis Phipps single. Lutz reached base and Phipps scored the second run on an error by the Padre 3B.

The Padres came back with a run of their own that scored on an error by Clarke. He did strick out his third batter in two innings.

06-24-2012, 11:21 PM
The verry essence of Small sample Size, but Beau Mills seems to like his new surroundings.

Through two games:

5-8, 2 R, 2B, 2 HR, 7 RBI, BB, .625/.667/1.500/2.167

That might be a bit tricky to maintain though.

06-24-2012, 11:35 PM
The AZl games are very slow in updating and I'm getting ready to hit the sack.

Reds 1B Ponciano Flores singled leading off the bottom of the 2nd, but was thrown out stealing. The next two hitters went down in order. Both failed to score in the third too. Still 2-1 Reds, heading to the 4th.

06-24-2012, 11:43 PM
Good to have Mitch Clarke back. He showed quite a bit of promise last year in Dayton, but had been on the shelf until tonight's start for the AZL Reds. He went two innings and gave up one run on one hit, no walks, three strikeouts.

Now, about Jonathan Perez. He pitched tonight, as well, and got knocked around severely, which is why the Reds now trail 9-2. But who is this guy? Last year, the Reds signed a 16-year-old Venezuelan pitcher for $825,000. So, apparently, this is not that guy. This guy is 21 years old and from Santo Domingo. So either there's been some weird mistake or the Reds have two pitchers named Jonathan Perez.

06-24-2012, 11:48 PM
Evidently Mitch Clarke only went the first two innings/

2.0 1 1 1 0 3 0 4.50 (WP)

Even though Clarke walked no one, he did have a WP that allowed his only run.

He was relieved by Jonathan Perez who made it through a scoreless 4rd, but wasn't so luck in the 4th.

His final line:

1.2 5 7 7 3 1 0 37.80 (Ouch!) (2 WP)

He was relieved by Richard McCaffery who got the last out of the4th and finished pitched the fifth, giving up another run of his own in the 4th.

Other than a BB to Lutz, the Reds did nothing in the bottom of the 4th or 5th the Pads went ton in order in their half of the 5th. The 8-run 4th now puts the Padres up 8-2 going to the top of the sixth.

06-24-2012, 11:51 PM
McCaffery retires the Padres 1-2-3 for the second straight inning. He's now retired 7 in a row.

06-24-2012, 11:59 PM
The Vets get one back in the bottom of the 6th. Phipps triples and Lutz follows him to the plate with a double. Now 9-3 Padres going to the 7th.

06-25-2012, 12:04 AM
After giving up a 2B to start the Top of the 7th, McCaffery gets the next three batters. 9-3 going to the bottom of the inning.

06-25-2012, 12:31 AM
The baby Reds whittle away with 3 more in the bottom of the 7th. Now 9-6 lil Padres going to the 8th.

06-25-2012, 12:33 AM

3.1 3 1 1 0 3 0 2.08 (1 WP)

06-25-2012, 01:05 AM
The Padres get one in their half of the 8th and the Reds tally 2 more in the bottom of the inning. The second run scored when 1B Ponciano Flores stole home on the frontend of a double steal. 10-8 Padres going to the ninth.

CF Bryan Arias reached on a one-out error, but that was it. The AZL Reds fall 10-8.
