According to Reds' TV team, he left today's game with left knee inflammation. He left as a precautionary measure, and is receiving further testing and evaluation now.

They can do a lot with knees. Anything short of ACLs are fixed in a matter of a week or two even if it needs arthroscopic surgery

Wonder if he might have some cartilage floating around? I had that problem and it didn't take a lot to get it crossways.

I think it will come out that he originally injured it a week or two ago. I remember seeing Phillips hit into a DP with Votto on first, and Votto came up limping ever so slightly. I want to say it was during the Mets series, but don't quote me on that.

Maybe it's not been right since then and he tweaked it today.

All of that fancy coffee is turning his knees brown! :D

He's a stallion. A little DMSO will fix that knee right up.

I think he may have aggravated the knee a while ago. Maybe it just flared up on him today. Im not doctor and have never claimed to be but IMO he looked like he could have continued playing. I just think its one of those aches and pains every player goes through in a season. Hopefully we have some more information on this tonight or hopefully tomm. before the game. You are right tho with this making or breaking the season. I just have a feeling its a day to day thing.

Joey Votto doesn’t think his left knee problem is serious. Votto left Saturday’s game after grounding out in the fifth inning.

He originally jammed his knee sliding into third base on Friday night.

“I tried to play through it,” he said. “It started acting up. There is some inflammation in my knee.” ... But Votto doesn’t sound overly concerned. He was upbeat and joking after icing the knee Saturday.

“We’ll have to see,” he said. “I don’t see why this should linger. There’s nothing structural. It happens sliding sometimes, then today – with the short turnaround – it lingered. I think I’ll be fine.”

Anything concerning Joey Votto is serious.
Just hope he reads his body as well as he reads opposing pitchers.

Has anyone with the Reds said how long Joey will be out? I still haven't heard. Dusty commented yesterday that it would probably be day to day. They were going to see how he felt when he came to the park today. Whenever Votto is injured it makes me nervous.

It must be bad to where he couldn't pinch hit in the 9th inning today when they sure could have used a major league hitter. That was a wasted game period.

Yep. Votto tailed off considerably the last week or so. It was well deserved.

McCutchen .370, 7 hrs, 26 rbi, 4 sb
Votto .392, 6 hrs, 18 rbi, 1 sb

Did you intend to leave out OPS (I havent checked the numbers)?

But in the laymen categories, I will concede Andrew looks better.

No, I just grabbed the numbers from the article about him winning the player of the month award. Then just picked the same ones for Votto. Give me a sec and I'll grab the OPS.

Votto 1.178
McCutchen 1.096

Slash lines for June:
McCutchen: .370/.420/.676/1.096
Votto: .392/.487/.691/1.178

I'll take Votto.

This is just Joey's way of getting Brandon into the All-Star Game.

Who else would play at 1st though? At this point, the NL crop at 1B is so weak that Allen Craig could have an outside chance of making the AS team if this happened. Though he doesn't have the at bats, he's at an RBI a game pace right now.

Well, you normally get inflammation when your leg is chopped off. And Votto still has 2 legs, so I think you can rule that out. :beerme:

Exactly what I was thinking about this situation. Have they done an MRI and if not, why not?

My understanding is that it was a jammed knee, and that there was nothing structural (e.g. cartilage, meniscus, ligament) that needed to be addressed beyond swelling related to the injury. For anyone who has had a hyperextended wrist or a jammed toe before, you know that it will swell and only time can really heal it.

The fact that an MRI has not been conducted is, in my opinion, a good thing. MRI's are generally conducted only when structural damage is anticipated or feared, as far as I know.

Day-to-day has never been more true than it is in this case, I would think.

I think you'd have to break his knee to keep him out very long. He is and sees himself as this team's leader. He'll play if there is any way possible and it doesn't threaten his career
