So if the doctors said there's no reason he can't play, why are you wanting him to not play? The hit to the head was not a direct shot. If it had been, it wouldn't have gone 30 rows up into the crowd. It was a scary play, but if Cozart passes the tests and is cleared, there's no reason for him not to be out there. As a matter of fact, I'd rather him be out there as quick as possible, because I'm sure there will be some mental hurdles to overcome in terms of digging in at the plate.

Knowing what they know now....it makes sense to be cautious.

He had a mild concussion, and it hasn't been 24 hours.

Speaking of team doctors and concussions, the Browns' sent McCoy back into the game after Harrison tried to kill him with a shot to the head.

It isn't on Dusty or Walt, the Reds employ people to make these kinds of decisions. The one thing that does surprise me from Dusty is that he didn't give him the extra day, that's usually the routine I thought.

RedsFanInBama

If the guy says he's good to go and passes the battery of tests he's given, I see no point in sitting him. Catchers routinely take dings similar to what Cozart got last night, or even worse, and don't miss a pitch.

Not if he is rushed back to soon, reinjures the knee where he misses considerable time in July and early Aug....

What's the upside to giving a healthy player the night off? Do you really think the organization would take an unnecessary risk with either player?

Did you see him try to run down the line on that hit in SF? The knee I believe was swollen they said. That doesn't happen over nothing. Again I don't trust Dr. K to solve warts, let alone have a clue on Votto. Again I hope I am wrong but I am willing to bet this issue comes back to bite the Reds again, just like Kemp's issue has damaged the Dodgers.

Yes, I saw. And no, they said it was inflamed, which is not the same as swollen. I actually believe you will be hoping Votto gets hurt so that you can come on here and tell everyone, "Told you so." It's been a long time since you've been able to say those words, I get it.

Not really but I don't see the positive in rushing him back. If there was a series of games where we could go without him and not be to hurt it would be these with the Dodgers and Padres and then an ASB rest.

Who says he's being rushed back? Did the notion that maybe his injury wasn't as serious as you suspected cross your mind? Is there any scenario that exists whereby you could have possibly misjudged how badly he was hurt? Or were you able to diagnose the severity of his injury from your couch at home and then come up with a recovery plan better than those on the scene?

One more question - Did man actually walk on the moon?

Like a ton of bricks it hit me. They are keeping Dioner Navarro in AAA and letting him shine, because they do not want to mess with his trade value. If they bring him up and he doesn't hit he loses value. Yes, if he comes up and hits he adds to it. But, taking the conservative approach, they are not willing to take that chance. IMO.

3 double bogies & 3 birdies in the morning + some missed putts = 78

I melted in the heat & humidity of the afternoon playing from the tips with guys 30 years younger than me = 90 ==

I probably should have quit -- drank 3 large waters & two large iced teas & didn't go to the bathroom

I went this morning and shot an 85. So dry in our parts, if you hit it on the fairway the ball rolls forever....lol

Still, it's Jocketty's call.

He sure did unless his eye was swollen shut, many did not even wear helmets, they were not required until 1970 or 71, I'm pretty sure.
Of course a lot of players wore them way before.
Cozart was hit on the top part of his helmet, pretty much a glancing blow. Looked worse than it was and scared him more than anything, it's a very very loud sound. He's fine.
