0-4 tonight, while coming in with a .222 batting average, .266 OBP, and .651 OPS in 268 plate appearances (58 games) hitting leadoff.

He's a good fielder, and he has some pop in his bat. But for the love of god, stop batting him first.

If he is not careful, that OPS is going to sink to a level not seen since the likes of Paul Janish.

Frustrating night.

Cozart bats leadoff, Stubbs bats 2nd.

Tip your cap to the opposing pitcher.

Maybe move Stubbs to leadoff, and bat Cozart 2nd? :KoolAid:

Folks, folks, folks.

Cozart leading off is ridiculous -- but there's a broader point and many of us said it in April. We were laughed at for panicking and being way premature on this.

The offense makes no sense.

It's not just Cozart. The whole thing makes no sense.

You cannot have 11 righty hitters, most of whom are clones of one another. Power and no OBP.

You cannot have no switch hitter for years and years. The Reds haven't had one playing meaningful innings since Javier Valentin.

And mostly, you cannot have no OBP. You cannot have Joey Votto on your team with Cozart, Stubbs, and Heisey setting the table.

I know the OPS isn't terrible, I've seen the stats. But this offense makes zero sense. It never did.

There's plenty of time to fix it but it must be done.

And, by the way, the team has generally played poorly througout this trip. It goes beyond hitting. But it's mostly hitting.

If I see another ineup with Cozart and Valdez (or anyone else with an ONP south of .300) at the top of the lineup, my head's gonna explode. I think I'll go stand by Dusty when it does so he takes the brunt of the schrapnel.

Sorry but ss bats first and cf bats second, Dusty's rule.

I'd be OK with Stubbs leading off, IF they got a left-handed bat with decent OBP numbers against righties to platoon with him. Bat Brandon 2nd, a new LFer cleanup and take the pressure off Zach by hitting him 7th or 8th.

Marco Scutaro anyone?

Houston's team OBP - .311
Cincinnati's team OBP - .313

Agree to an extent. We just keep pumping out the same breed for whatever reason. No plate discipline with just enough pop to separate themselves from the AAA fodder. I'm hoping Mesoraco comes on strong in the second half and breaks the mold.

No. No. No.

Shortstop and centerfielder bat in the first 2 spots. It's engraved in stone.......atleast the one that constitutes Dusty's brain.

Baker wants hitters to be more aggressive

TRy this:

Phillips
Ludwick
Votto
Bruce
Frazier
Mesoraco
Stubbs/Heisey
Cozart
Pitcher

Ludwick successfully filled the 2 spot with the Cards. Frazier could do it too.
Give better hitters more ABs = More runs as a result.

I like that if Frazier was at 2 and Ludwick 4 as "we need to split them lefties" per Dusty.

That works too. If you can't get better players, at least give more ABs to better hitters. Heck, we used to do that at the sandlot. The dorky kid with the glasses would hit 9th and play right field.

It's not that bad . . . yet.

Paul Janish 2011 OBP/OPS: .259/.521
Corey Patterson 2008: .238/.582
Willy Taveras 2009: .275/.559
Drew Stubbs 2012: .289/.638
Zack Cozart 2012: .294/.689

Send this up to the baseball gods as an offering of sacrifice. See how we suffer for you!

Lineup construction really isn't that complicated when you think about it...

Yeah, thanks, terrific! :rolleyes::rolleyes:

With any luck, we'll have Rolen back in the starting lineup in the next game or two with his .243 OBP and .555 OPS.

Phillips-Bruce-Votto 1-2-3

That makes sense. Best hitters get the most AB's.

Otherwise, it just doesn't make much difference,

Phillips tweeted about talking to "The Main Man about making a change." I'm stretching to think it's about him batting lead off, but that is what I believe he is referencing. Maybe we'll see it after the break.

@DatDudeBP: #RealTalk... For some reason, I'm debating about talking to the main man about making a change... He knows where I'm coming from! #SALUTE
