Awesome story. I am planning on getting my cards out this week to go through with my 12 and 14 year old this month for summer fun.

A complete set of 1983 Fleer cards is going for $79 on Ebay. I am guessing they went for around $20 in 1983. I thought I would be rich years ago when I bought these complete sets.

You started with the wrong decade. The 80's, in general, were very bad for the baseball card industry due to their overproduction. Early 80's not as much, but the late 80's was insane.

What's card collecting like these days? Do kids collect still, or is it out like keeping score at games?

Oh I actually started collecting in the late 70's. I didn't get the complete sets till the early 80's. I still have quite a few good ones prior to 80'.

Pretty much like keeping score at games. Kids are priced out these day on a whole lot of stuff.

I'm was relieved when I read that he decided to do this when he discovered that he had a bunch of '83 fleer cards, and not because he liked the set. It really is one of the least appealing sets in card history, imo. Still great story. :)
