Votto will break out of his slump in a big way.

4-5 with 2 doubles, a single and a homerun.

and 1 RBI

So much for the winning streak. I can't conceive a manager refusing to play his most productive players. But then, there's Dusty. This lineup is laughable, to put it kindly.

Pretty sad that an upgrade to the lineup would be to flip Stubbs and Leake in the battin order.

Rolen starting today is only a problem if Rolen also starts tomorrow. His lack of production needed to lead to more Frazier and I'm hoping that's what's going on.

If he still struggles in a diminished role then the talk should be about DL'ing him for the rest of the year.

I agree his options are limited and I'm not as upset about the construction of the line up, though I still would like to see Phillips somewhere in the top two spot. I'm more pissed about leaving Heisey and Frazier out of it.

Except for the pitchers, we have only 2 hitters hitting above .250 in this lineup today, while in contrast, the Cardinals have only Furcal below .292.
Doesn't look too promising for scoring much.

Dusty has his favorites and it plays out in lineup construction. The problem is, Stubbs is so terminally bad right now, Jocketty may have to intervene in some capacity.

When does walt step in on some of this crazy line up crap?

When he fires them. Until then, he should stay out of it and do his job and let the manager do his. If he has a problem with who is playing, then make a move for someone else or get rid of said player, or get rid of the coach. But don't try and play manager and general manager at the same time.

And I know I'm not saying anything new right now, but man... St. Louis's lineup is crazy good. They've got us beat at essentially every position outside of 1st/2nd, and by a fair amount. You figure they've got to start playing more like their run differential suggests eventually, and when they do... Ugh.

Janish might get a chance in Atlanta. Pastornicky has been very average for them. Good luck to Paul.

Pastornicky has not been our SS since May, he has been in AAA converting in to a utility man. Simmons was called up and was excellent, but he got hurt Sunday and is out 6 weeks. Jack Wilson got hurt as well last night forcing us to start Prado at SS today. Janish will get a chance until Simmons gets back,

Redmond has nothing left to prove in AAA so I hope he gets a chance.

Me too.

Just preposterous to toss 350 OPS points down the toilet with this lineup.

But Baker needs to play Rolen in order to get him to the mountaintop (for Rolen, an OPS of 0.600).

"We've got to play [Rolen] in order for him to get to the top of his game," Baker said. "But at the same time, I've got to be smart about trying to do what's best for Scottie and do what's best for us, too."

Dusty got away with that one. Right handed batters were 5-9 against Bray.

In the most important situation of the game with 2 outs, bases loaded, why not Champan?

I hate the mentality that the closer has to pitch the ninth. Is he to fragile to be placed in that situation?

Redmond has gone 34-30, 3.78 ERA the last four seasons at Gwinnett (AAA).

Starting depth. But why?

I'm betting this trade was brewing for awhile given the movement of Gregorius AND Hamilton. I'm also betting Redmond won't stay with the Reds long but will be a trading chip for our long-awaited outfield help.

ok then...i respect your confidence in Bray. I like playing the percentages. I felt Chapman had a higher percentage of getting the out....thats all. There's no doubt Bray hasn't proved it, and in fact shown to be a scary input into a tight game. Baker has the guts and you have to give him credit for that. Don't know if I would have the guts in the same situation with Chapman there, but then I also don't like using Chapman as much as Baker does. I probably would have gone with Bray and leave Chapman for another inning in hopes we can get a lead in the bottom of the 8th.

But, since our bottom of the 8th lineup was none too good and the bottom of the ninth no better with Cozart and Stubbs, I'd probably try to save Chapman for pitching the top of the 10th.
