Swap Rolen for Frazier, and you'd have my ideal lineup.

Now, to do something about the order...

Chapman has pitched two days in a row. It will be interesting to see how he is used tonight. Normally, a closer could go three days in a row and then be off limits that fourth day, but they might not use Chapman like a typical closer.

Furcal 6
Jay 8

Beltran 9
Berkman 3
Molina 2
Freese 5

He's spent most of the year behind Votto who gets on base 1/2 of the time. It's pretty easy to pile up the double plays there.

Phillips set the tone for the AB by swinging at a first-pitch sinker that was about three inches off the ground. You just can't do that with a sinkerballer on the mound in that situation.

Sorry the link doesn't work, yes LaRue was probably going to retire after the 2010 season but he really did get a concussion during the brawl. Read the article, here's the url to copy/paste:

http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/larue/

The doctors at UPMC, with their reputation of excellence and vast knowledge of handling head injuries, will make sure that LaRue will be able to play catch with his children again. They will help him understand what he needs to do to make sure a crazy fight between a bunch of guys just taking their job seriously will not destroy his future. The question left is whether Major League Baseball do the same.

I know he got a concussion. The concussion, though, didn't end his career. What ended his career was his ineffectiveness as a player - even in a very reduced role. That's my contention.

I can agree to that, but it wasn't the way the career should have ended. I also know he's not going to Cooperstown without a general admission ticket either. The whole brawl thing was dumb from the published comments to the tap on the shinguard to the instantanious bench clearing to the backed up against the fence kicking. TBH, it was amazing to me that LaRue was the only real injury. It did end his career 2 months before it should have though. If it had been a younger player I'm sure they would still be playing - but they wouldn't have been back in 2010.

Offensively, Molina has had three separate careers at the ML level it seems. He was a terrible hitter, then an average hitter, and now he's one of the best hitting catchers in the league.

Gotta take your hat off to him. I know Reds fans love to boo and give him grief, but none of that stuff that happened was really his fault. He seems like a real professional to me.

He said he hopes Homer can go a good bit longer in the game when asked about how long he would go. Then, asked who he would compare Votto to, he said George Brett, then threw in Bill Buckner for good measure - said he uses all fields, hits a lot of doubles.

CARPENTER CARPENTER CARPENTER CARPENTER CARPENTER CARPENTER!

No I'm not a Dr. that specializes in Brain Trauma, does that make you feel better?

My assumption (yes you may break the word down if it makes you feel good;)) was that:

1 - LaRue was most likely going to retire after the season. There was not a formal announcement but it was rumered if I recall correctly.

2 - As a catcher, that wasn't his 1st concussion, he had a few previously with most of those when he was the Reds starting catcher between 2001 and 2005.

3 - You don't have to be a
Dr. that specializes in Brain Trauma? Correct? to know that there are residual effects of concussions.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concussion

It obviously doesn't take a
Dr. that specializes in Brain Trauma? Correct? to read this and along with the earlier quote where LaRue went to Pittsburgh:

http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/larue/

LaRue will head to Pittsburgh to join the Cardinals on their final road trip. Instead of walking through the clubhouse door to play catch with his teammates, he will walk through the doors of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Hope this clears it up for you, good luck on that one.

The numbers are skewed based on ballpark. Their lineup is better than ours. Homer, statistically speaking, is more average than Westbrook, even taking the ballpark into consideration. Not really. If a quicker guy can get to a ball on his feet and make a play look routine, he's not a lesser defender than a guy who might have to dive to make the same play. It's kinda what defensive sabermetrics are based upon. Guys like Andy Van Slyke and Jim Edmonds made a lot of money making the mundane play look extreme.
