Just saw a tweet from one of the YES guys. Wow.

https://twitter.com/JackCurryYES/status/227523684905136128

The Yankees have acquired Ichiro Suzuki for RHPs DJ Mitchell and Danny Fahrquar, a source said. Yanks also get undisclosed cash in deal.

Ichiro has been godawful this year. Kinda funny, I just jumped on Anibel Sanchez in my fantasy league and dropped Ichiro in the process, before I saw this.

A few years ago I would have been insanely jealous. Now... not so much. Could be revitalizing to bat in that lineup though... depending on the return, savvy move for the Yanks.

Wow. That trade came out of nowhere. I had not even heard rumors of him being traded.

Low risk move for the Yanks and Ichiro plays pretty well in the new ballpark. Should be a good move for them going forward towards another run.

Ichiro can probably help the Yanks. He's been a league average bat away from Safeco this season and he's been exceptional defensively yet again. Gosh knows the bright lights won't distract the international man of mystery.

I have a feeling he will go nuts in that ballpark and with that lineup that is actually competent. Huge upgrade for the Yankees defensively as well. Being a minor Yankees fan, I love this move.

Without looking at splits, I have to imagine they are weaker vs LHP, no?

Are any of you kind of glad to see Ichiro being able to get a chance to get a ring? I've always thought of him as a class individual and had a ton of respect for him. I'm glad he has the chance now to win it all.

As long as the Yankees have space in the clubhouse and money in the wallet, they'll never be out of any derby lol

And if they're out of space, they'll just build more.

Yanks.

The are almost identical against RHP (.262/.336/.460, OPS=.796) and LHP (.267/.333/.460, OPS=.793).

I think its neat he will play first vs Sea at Safeco. I also think he would look good in RF for us. Hadn't thought about it till now but he and Jay could swap. Too late now.

You're not suggesting we should've traded Bruce for Ichiro are you? (I'm hoping I'm misreading this)

Essentially non-prospects/low ceiling prospects at best.

That Farquhar kid's been making the rounds of getting DFA and claimed off waivers, he's on his 4th team in the last month-6 weeks or so now.

The Yanks are picking up about $2.5m of his salary too.

Ichiro bows to show respect to the crowd in Seattle, then singles up the middle in his first AB for the Yankees.

Edit: and steals second.

Yes I am. Ichiro is one of my favorite players and I'd love to see him go out in style (but hopefully with a loss to the Reds in the series).

I'm guessing that Ichiro would have nixed a trade to Cincinnati. He is very much a cosmopolitan kind of guy, and has had some very unflattering things to say about the Midwest in the past.

Maybe, but I don't see him as someone who would be interested in playing in the Midwest (with the possible exception of Chicago). He's more of a West Coast/East Coast kind of guy.

Same old song and dance..

April 11, 1954 the Yankees acquired the soon-to-be 38-year-old outfielder Enos Slaughter from the St. Louis Cardinals for three prospects, the Cardinals’ owner August A. Busch said: “We have just traded one of the greatest baseball players in the history of the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals are trying to build a young ball club. It was one of the toughest decisions I had to participate in.”

I really hate this for for Seattle fans. Getting two 25-year-olds prospects for Ichiro seems a terrible blow to fans from 5 years-old on up.

The Yankees now have quite a few ex-Mariners; Ichiro, Raul Ibanez, David Aardsma, Michael Pineda, Rafael Soriano, Freddy Garcia, and of course Alex Rodriguez.

Give me a break :thumbdown::rolleyes:

He's never said anything of the sort and it's these kind of dated stereotypes - from people that live in Cincinnati, no less - that perpetuate the ignorance and are as harmful as anything else.

Ichiro is pretty much an arrogant arse and loner and not a team player as most in the NWest realized. This is a guy that always did his post game interviews with his back towards the media.

Incredible ten year run in Seattle until 2010, but they are much better off turning the page at this point with his sudden departure ending the nonsense of a contract extension.

Funny.

Interestingly, the real Ichiro's OBP is the exact same as Drew Stubbs' this season (.288 OBP). Ichiro's career OBP is less than Adam Dunn's (Ichiro .366 to Dunn's .373) and his career OPS is almost 100 points lower than Dunn's.

When I heard about this trade and started to get the details it reminded me of the Sean Casey trade a number of years ago. The Reds dumped a fan favorite (albeit no in the same rhelm as Ichrio) in order to signal a new direction with the club. They got back pretty much nothing in return, Dave Williams. I had heard that the M's didn't want Ichrio back next season and didn't want to do with fan pressure wanting Ichrio back.

The Ms organization has spawned a large number of very good players through the years.

This is the last year of Ichiro's contract and he quietly asked to be traded. I'm not sure if the Ms wanted to resign him or not but Ichiro made the decision easy for them. He's a great guy that I will miss seeing in an Ms uni.

Ichiro with 2 HRs in the Bronx tonight vs. the Red Sox. He's put up a .301/.326/.422 slash line for a .747 OPS so far. Not world beating numbers, but much better than he was in Seattle. And with his D and speed, I'd say it's turning out to be a pretty good pickup for the Yanks.

I keep telling myself I'm gonna start a collection of obscure team jerseys of well-known players (you just gotta grab them while the player is active on said team). Ichiro as a Yankee would be right in that wheelhouse...always wanted to grab an Edmonds Reds jersey just for the mind-blowing effect. :D

While Ichiro has always been a high contact/low walk guy, he now has 1 walk in his first 92 trips to the plate with the Yankees. He is hitting .322/.344/.506 after tonight though, so the production has been there... just not sure you can expect it moving forward to be that way without some slight changes here and there.
