I agree with the overall sentiment of posters in this thread. Phillips wouldn't lie to stay on the field. He's going to honestly tell them how much discomfort he is experiencing, they will do a variety of tests and what not to determine what might be wrong/what his range of motion is/etc., and they will apply their vast medical knowledge accumulated through years of schooling to recommend whether he needs to sit and how long.

Players lie all the time about injuries. From HS level to pro, that is why you have hopefully well trained medical staffs.

Well, he could have had an exam, and the doctors said that there would be no harm for him to play in the key games before the break and be able to attend an all star game as a starter.

that's my point, I think Joey undersold how sever the pain was and possible injury because like all players, they want to play. I believe HE and in this case Brandon will not be forthcoming fully on the extent. A top dodgers pitcher I believe was put on the DL only after the team forced him to get looked at because he kept telling them nothing was wrong. I don't blame the players for lieing, it's in their DNA to play through pain, that is why you need a strong GM/Manager whom looks out for the teams best interest.

Those kind of decisions, MRI's and such, would be the medical staff. Not usually the GM/Manager.

I would hope not, I would hope the GM determines based off what the medical staff said, but even if they said they don't think it's necessary the GM would look at the costs..

No, but the GM has the final call and I would hope would error on the side of being extra cautious. Again better to double check then risk in my opinion.

I deal with doctors who can narrow down symptoms to a certain uncommon infectious disease, and then turn around and prescribe an antibiotic that doesn't do anything to treat it. Stuff like that is not uncommon in medicine...at all. It's why doctors work in teams, contact each other for recommendations etc. Kremchek may be an amazing surgeon, but he's obviously not the best at diagnosis.
