ESPN.com's David Schoenfield takes a close look at our Reds, sparking a lively debate as to whether or not these Redlegs just might be the cream of the crop in the NL.

I'll take "The Reds have best pitching rotation in the N.L. and tied for best record in baseball" for $1000 Alex.

It's strange that a team with seemingly so many offensive holes could be the best team in baseball, but they just might be. If everybody continues to contribute like this once Votto gets back, this team will be extremely dangerous!

I don't know, if the offense was better I would say yes. Right now if I had to say, it would probly be the Dodgers or Nats, but we are right there behind them. If we can get a leadoff hitter then I think we will be real dangerous come playoff time.

I agree with you, but consider 3 points.

1. The rotation is very good, 5 deep and the closer is unhittable.
2. Joey Votto is probably the hardest guy to pitch to in baseball.
3. Pretty much any lineup in baseball can score runs at GABP.

It's funny how much #1 has almost contradicted point #3 as far as opposing offenses have gone.

Red's have (in my opinion, but the facts are below) the best slash line in the 7th inning and later.

It reads: .260 / .334 / .435

2nd in BA to Philly
2nd in OBP to St. Louis
1st in SLG
1st in OPS

Looks like in addition to their lights-out closer, they're the best closing offense in the NL as well, and among the top in baseball.

This team is where it's at because, top to bottom, it has the best pitching in the league. Outside of Votto the offense doesn't have a .300 hitter in the line-up. Granted, since the AS break they have a group of guys who are hot at the plate.

Hard to say, the NL is definitely better than the AL though. Dodgers are the most talented team

They are tied for the best record in the NL - so yes.

Many of the players who have helped get us to this point are on hot streaks and typically don't play this well - so no.

I'm going to go with - maybe.

Actually Mr. Phillips is at .300 :D

They are one of the best in all of baseball. They are hot right now and I am very excited about the future.
Great rotation
Strong pen - dominate closer
Solid defense
Offense that is heating up
All signs are very good.

The title of the thread was Are the Reds the best in the NL? So I kept it league specific for more relevance... I guess... :D
