At this point, there's absolutely no way to tell. Jocketty has played this so close to the vest that it's impossible to tell what his plan is.

I do think Ellsbury or Choo are his preferred choices, but the cost may prove prohibitive.

I think they'll stand pat

I'll say one of Pierre or Dejesus, and a LH bat for the bench, like Kotsay.

Me too.

I'm going to go all in and say that Walt pulls some magic and nabs Shin Soo Choo. I think however, Juan Pierre is more likely and standing pat is even more so. :)

I think the safe money is on standing pat. But given the choice between something happening and nothing happening, I'd say something happens.

This wasn't exactly an option, but my bet is on either standing pat or picking up someone uninteresting not on the list above.

Ellsbury would be my choice.

Brutus

I voted they stand pat. More because I felt it was a more likely option than any one player listed. Now if the vote was the field versus standing pat, I would take the field.

I voted nobody.

No one being discussed is a good fit for the team -- they either play the wrong position or would cost more than they're worth to acquire, IMO.

I vote Stand Pat. I would love to see a LeCure for King Felix trade...but I don't think that will happen in the real world.

No real shakeups, but I see Kotsay

I hope Im wrong but I think they stand pat. I just dont see them getting anyone at this point. Maybe a waiver wire pickup after the deadline.

I don't see them pulling the trigger to get anybody. However, I really hope they get Pence or Ellsbury

I voted Pierre earlier...a lot of writing on the wall suggesting that will happen.

I am rooting for a "Jocketty Suprise".

Benihana

So 80% of people think it will either be Juan Pierre or nothing.

That's the most pessimistic I can remember Redszone being at the deadline in a long time. Of course, that means we'll likely get an All-Star...

Best-case scenario? Denard Span.

I'd be thrilled with Ryan Sweeney though because it would signal they recognize the weaknesses of this team and were willing to address it. I'll go with Sweeney in an effort to be a "glass half-full" guy.

Juan Pierre.

Lyle Overbay is rumored to be pursued by the Reds according to Morosi. IMO either Overbay or Kotsay is all we get.

For some reason, I got the feeling that if they were going to do anything "interesting," it would be today (don't know why, they can just as easily do something between now and 4PM). I think there's a very good chance they deal for Juan Pierre, but thatleaves me lukewarm. I'm hoping the Phils or Twinks come down some on Victorino or Span or someone who can also play in the field.

I would be ecstatic if I woke up tomorrow morning and found that Ellsbury, Choo, Willingham, Upton, Pence or Headley were Reds, but I'm afraid those ships may have sailed. I think there is about a 5% chance that Walt pulls off something completely unexpected.

As I said several weeks ago, my greatest concern is the arm load on the 5 starters. I predict if there is a deal of significance, the target will be a starter.

Yeah, its fun discussing Garza, but don't think it will happen. I'm revising my prediction above, but only to say they will add Overbay in addtion to Pierre.

Is there a tire Walt hasn't kicked?

Standing pat.. For now. Any deal made will be after non waiver deadline. RedsZone will ignite in fury, as it has in past years..

Doubt it. Tied for best record in baseball, 3 games up in division, standing pat is a viable option. Don't see a ton of anger if Reds wait and do a small deal later.

I keep reading that the Reds are really looking into starting pitching, for whatever reason. So, I'll go with a package that includes a starting pitcher and a leadoff guy.

Matt Garza and David DeJesus from the Cubs. I'm sure the return for those two will be awful. Personally, I'm not buying Matt Garza as a legitimate, big-game pitcher.

He's pitched in some really big games though:

I think there's a chance we see Garza and Overbay both in Red by the end of the day. Most likely though: Overbay or JP.

This is what I've been hoping for, particularly for Heisey and a minor league pitcher. I think Span fits well and can be a good part of a 4 man round robin outfield. I chatted with my son about this and was leaning towards standing pat, but he replied he wants to see us improve the roster without upsetting what these team presently has (last night notwithstanding!)

I said earlier that I think we're in a good bargaining position, I think. Making a move isn't absolutely necessary. At the same time, we have a number of various targets and could go any number of ways, which I think puts us in the driver seat. It's not a firm position, but it gives us the ability to say to the Twins, for example, that their asking price for Span is too high and we'll just go with Pierre, for example or Kotsay, and so on. And we don't even have to pay Kotsay's immediate travel costs! I could well be wrong, but I think that gives us some room to drive a deal that's best for us, if one is made.

Just like how it melted down after we missed out on Ubaldo Jimenez a few years again.

Man, if we only had HIS 5.08 ERA in the rotation right now...

The Rangers appear unlikely for Garza, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The Blue Jays and Reds appear to be more realistic matches. - 6:29 a.m. - mlbtraderumors.com (aka mlbtr.com)

I'm guessing Walt found a reasonable trade partner willing to take quality mlb players/prospects that aren't our untouchables. Plus he has a past recent relationship with Theo.

Heisey or Stubbs
Leake
Gregorius
H-Rod

for

Garza
Dejesus

That's my guess.

Heisey, Leake, DiDi and H-Rod for Garza and DeJesus? Yes please.

Not sure why they'd want DiDi with Castro though. Would be hilarious if the Cubs lineup in a year or two was something like:

CF Sappelt
SS Gregorius
3B H.Rodriguez
1B Rizzo
RF Soler
LF Heisey
2B Torreyes (Castro)
C Whoever

With Leake or Wood as their OD starter

I think they'll stand pat

Usually the way it goes when there is so much chatter surrounding them. It's as if they call on everyone so they appear busier than they hope to be. But I actually expect a LH bench bat of some kind.

Unfortunately if it's Pierre I think he might actually make us worse going forward, standing pat has some merit if you aren't gonna do anything worthwhile. Anything more than the aforementioned bat and I'll be surprised. Even though I really think they would like another arm or 2 (one starter one reliever) to create some quality depth. But I think in this market it's maybe a bit cost prohibitive in one way or another.

But just for fun I'll toss out my ideal deadline day as well.

Phillies get: Chris Heisey & Logan Ondrusek
Reds get: Shane Victorino & 1 million cash

Tampa gets: T.J. Hoover, Cody Puckett & J.C. Sulbaran
Reds get: Fernando Rodney

Marlins get: Miguel Cairo & Tucker Barnhart
Reds get: Greg Dobbs
